Hi Guys: I spoke with Dr. C office in Missouri and they told me that 90% of Lyme patients have hypercoagulation and they prescribe heparin. How many of you here use heparin and how did it help you in any way? Thanking you in advance D

Dear Dowa,
I use heparin to flush my daughters port after each IV. We also flush with saline. She also takes Coumadin once a day to help with the clotting problem that the lymies have. We used heparin in her pic line too, only in a smaller dose.

Hi: He uses the heparin in place of the coumadin. Do you know why your daughter takes the coumadin instead of just the heparin for the clotting problem? D

Hi Dowa,
She uses both the heparin and coumadin. When she had the picc line it would only stay open for 9 days at a time ( that was using heparin).
So when she got the port he decided to add the coumadin to help keep it open. She only takes 1mg a day. He also checks her clotting rate often.
