Can you take Rifampin with Mepron or Malarone?

I am pretty sure it has been mentioned here that you can't take Rifampin with Mepron/Malarone. Does anyone know anything about this?   Do you know why?   Any input would be greatly appreciated?

I was on Rifampin with Malarone for about 6 months. I believe it is because Rifampin makes the malarone less effective. Dr. H put me on both so I don't know..They both seemed to work for me.

Thanks for your response.  I was prescribed it by L there at Dr. H.  but my daughter's Dr. told me you shouldn't take Rifampin with Mepron/Malarone.   Also, now I remember someone mentioned something like that here. I am more confused than ever.  Why would they prescribe the 2 together if one blocks the other?

I just got out my medication information list they give you at Dr. H office. It says under Malarone/Mepron to inform your healthcare provider if you are taking the two together because Rifampin will lower the levels of Malarone/Mepron in your body. So I am confused as well.

I am no longer taking Rifampin but am still on Malarone.

Are you doing the bloodwork to check the liver every month also? What are you on now? I was on Ceftzil/plaquenil/Zithro/Artemesia. Now I was switched to Rifampin/zithro/plaquenil/Malarone because they beleive I have Babs even though I have shown up neg. Positive for Bart. & Mycoplasma.

     I have also heard of rifampin rendering malarone/mepron ineffective. I would call your dr about that as it could prove to be a waste of time.Peace!

Yes, I have the blood work done every month and the only thing I ever have a problem with is the WBC.

I was on Rifampin/Malarone/Plaquenil/Bicillin and then Zithro/Doxy/Plaquenil/Malarone now suppose to be on Zithro/Mino/Plaq/Malarone but I am currently taking nothing as I am having huge problems with the zithro/mino combo. They think I have babs too even though I was negative on the testing. I was just re-tested two weeks ago though.

I have no idea why they think babs since I never had any of the symptoms. I know it is clinical diagnosis but have no idea why they thought it.

because of night sweats and chills..after 7 months on Malarone they are finally gone (since June). I am still on Malarone which they will probably stop when I go out there next month. I had no other Babs symptoms that I know of.

When I first got sick I did have a high temp 103 and flu symptoms but I think that is a sign of Lyme.
