Children with Lyme & Strep

Just wondering if anyone's children who are being treated for lyme/coinfections have been tested for Strep and if the result was hi.  Is there any link between Strep and Lyme/coinfections.  My daughter was hi when tested over a year ago and was even higher when tested in Oct.  Now it could be that PANDAS is a factor.

I just came on and viewed this discussion, and its quite bizzare because I was JUST tested for strep and I guess it came back extremely high AND the strep I have is more severe then regular strep. Apparently, only a few people are this bad. We are waiting to get the test results and for it to be explained to us, but we are doing a little research on our own at the moment.

I have a question though...What is PANDAS?

I had VERY bad wax build up and ear infections almost every week. I had step throat ALOT!!!! EAR INFECTIONS AND STREP THROAT WERE VERY COMMON IN MY CHILDHOOD!!! I got my tonsils out when i was 5 and that reduced it alot but i still had it often about 2wice every year. Since I have been treasted not once have i had it. I am 13 now.

As far as I know there is a Dr(pediatric neurologist) who has written a book or paper who is the best and has cured Pandas according to a patient of his on ACN forums.

PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus --Basically the body trys to attack strep bacteria but there is mistaken identity and also attacks some parts of the brain (results in behaviour and emotional problems) symptoms return/worse everytime get strep..

Frango- Did your son have high Strep titer while on abx treating Lyme or was it previous to treatment.

Does Zithro work on Strep? Because if it does how could my daughter have gotten it since being in treatment?  I think it is possible her body is totally messed up and making strep antibodies, still and may not have Pandas.  Plus she has Lyme, babs, Bart, Proteus O19 & O2, Salmonella H, type a & O, type Vi (Typhoid)

I went through the same thing as a child.  Severe ear infections (which are some of my earliest childhood memories)... and I snored since the day I was born. I had a tonsilectomy/adnoidectomy when I was 4.  Throughout my childhood (about every other year or so) I had very bad strep throat infections.

The first time I saw my Rheumy (@USF - and he believes in LD - yeah!) he asked me all kinds of questions about my childhood illnesses.  I also have a very mild form of Ehlers Danlos - which just means I have hyper-extension in some joints.  The doctor said I was the "perfect host" for LD to take hold.  Yeah for me, I'm a perfect host - haha!  rolleyes eyes rolleyes

Weird,

I just got lab tests back yesterday that suspect PANDAS.  However, I was never that sickly as a child and have had strep once in the last 6 years.   Can it come on later in  life if the immune system is down.  I don't have the emotional or behavioral problems a child would have.

Frango does your son still see Dr. J. I am confused because I was told only amoxicillan(penicillan) works on Strep. So then if that is case why wouldn't Dr. J put our kids on amox for a while to see. My daughter looses her temper easily too. She was HLA DR4 neg. also.

Hiker53 what lab tests did you get back that suspect PANDAS?
