whole fresh and whole freeze-dried garlic contain a whole group of compounds (thiosulfinates)with potential antimicrobial activity, not just allicin. In my case, something in there has a pronounced therapeutic effect on the LD insomnia, when nothing else ever made much of a difference. It also eliminates the GI ailments whenever they crop up.
As for the Bb (Lyme) and the Bart and/or Bart-like-organism, I can't say that allicin or any of the thiosulfinates appear to have any effect. I've taken over 10 grams of pharma grade freeze-dried garlic for months at a time, with no noticeable therapeutic effect. If garlic crosses the blood-brain barrier or penetrates into deep tissue, it must not do so in sufficient amounts or for a long enough period of time (half life) to do much damage against Bb.
Hey Sulma,
I'm confused. So the garlic helped with LD insomnia and GI ailments but not Bb (lyme)? I'm just trying to get a handle on the use of garlic as I am considering starting a fresh garlic supplementation.
Also can you be a little more specific on your GI ailments. My Lyme has dogged my GI tract horribly, and I want to see if it would help with constipation.
Thanks!
