How long does herx last?

When I first started treatment I was very sick for about two weeks and then slowly improved. I have never had such a strong herx since then. I usually just have problems once a month. I changed abx last month and this month is worse but not debilitating. I think the duration of your herx depends on how sick you are and how effective the abx is. If it is any comfort, when you feel this bad after starting an abx it means it is working and you are killing off a lot of bacteria. I was told to drink a lot of water with lemon and to soak in a hot tub with epsom salts. I also liked being under an electric blanket. I hope you can take it easy until you feel better.

It is amazing that you are able to work through this. You are doing very well. It may continue to be bad for several weeks as though you have the worst flu ever. I had body pain, dizziness, extreme fatigue, headache and pins and needles stabbing sensations, muscle spasms and twitches and strange chills isolated to one part of my body. My ears were ringing with occasional stabs in the inner ear. It could become very loud at times, then quickly go away, just like yours. My eyes hurt all the time and I could not tolerate light. My brain was the worst part as it was like cotton, could not remember anything, forgot words and even slurred words together, could not type or write. . . . . Within two months I was doing very well but quickly relapsed when I quit abx, went on a stronger drug for two months, felt great, quit again and relapsed. The key is to go at least two months symptom free. I am on my 8th month of abx. It is a marathon, not a sprint, even when you consider yourself to be strong and healthy. I hope you feel better soon.
