anemia after 4 months of azithromycin

Hi - I am new to this site, though I have been dealing with Lyme for over 10 years.  I finally found a LLMD in November and was diagnosed with Bartonella.  I just finished 120 days of Zithromax and started Biaxin last week.  On Monday, my CBC came back and showed that I am anemic.  I have never been anemic before.  Has anyone else encountered this or know whether it could be related to the antibiotics?

Thank you for replying.  My doctor is very good so I will see what he says.  I am on a lot of medications, but none have changed recently except for the zithromycin and biaxin.  I don't think he tested for babesia because my sysmptoms were so in line with bartonella, but will bring that up at my next appointment, too.

It is very common for various reasons in the individual for anemia to occur. It should be addressed right away.

There could be several areas related to anemia. IH8Ticks is right to encourage you to talk w/your LLMD about those co-infections if this is not already being addressed.

There are two types of anemia to consider. If your CBC shows a high MCV count, your B-12 levels need to be checked. You could be B-12 anemic. Your Folic Acid should be tested along w/your Ferritin levels. If these are showing depletion, you are most likely iron deficient. Your LLMD should be able to you guide through this.

If your B-12 is deficient, you will need shots to nourish and replenish.

By the way, our daughter was born with critical Hemlytic anemia. That was over 18 years ago.
Please ensure that the right accompanying tests are addressed so that you can identify and stack the deck in favor of your RBCs.
