swine flu

Well, I am in Dallas and it has hit here already from Mexico, so yes it gets old, but guess its a real concern now as USA went from 8 cases to 40 overnight.  Pretty scarey.  D

I'm assuming it's getting so much publicity because people are dying. I think the number in New Mexico is now over 100. I know people have died from complications from Lyme Disease but it can be managed. People dying this fast from swine flu should be of some concern.

dorit- I hear ya, it is the same thing with West Nile- it seems to get all of the publicity and fear. And funding.
Not that I minimize any death- but if people only realized that they need to fear ticks much much more than a flu.
There are 6 "probable cases" of S/F in NJ. All are mild,not requiring hospitalization.
Sure, I am aware..... but the "hidden epidemic" of lyme has me much more concerned.

I agree with all of you. A client of mine who has lyme was petrified about swine flue and asked me if I thought she should be worried. I told her you already have something worse than that. The only difference is it feels like a slow death rather than a quick one.

It is just a matter of time before so much of the population gets lyme and its buddies that it gets the attention it deserves. It will be when the naysayers get out of their offices and actually get it themselves or watch someone they care about suffer. I think in a few years we will be hearing more and more about what we have and maybe then there will be more research.

Do you think that is because there isn't a treatment for West Nile, so doctors aren't afraid to diagnose it vs LD which is controversial and costly to treat?  Just a thought.

Yet, there are how many thousand new Lyme cases every year?

And yet, what is the top health story on every news/radio channel, newspaper. Some strand of the flu that gives you a runny nose and a stomach ache.

I have a friend who just returned from Mexico (about 5 days ago) and came to visit me within 24 hurs of returning....... no symptoms yet, but it wouldn't surprize me..... hell, nothing surprizes me anymore. Remember the Heparin recall? I was 1 digit off the recall number.... there were others on this board who received the recalled Heparin!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate this disease... not just for what it's done to my body, but to my mind and my trust in any part of our medical system.

Ok...I have to say...I think this swine flu is a big problem. And it is going to kill about 150 Million people in Mexico alone. It is the super poor that are not able to go to a Dr. and lot of children.
Lyme is a big problem in Mexico too. The gardeners of mine from Martha's Vineyard who got so ill would go back to Mexico to die.
They also got Tularemia and just died in two weeks flat on the Vineyard.
Being a Texan and having a home in San Antonio and where I plan to spend my whole summer. Yes it concerns me. With our immune systems just getting well, and getting hit with this flu. I am sure that I would be ok. But Lilly does not handle flus or colds well.
I am also very concerned about all of you that are already on such heavy abx for so long, if this is going to effect your immune system and also make your system not respond the the medicines that you would need to take to recover from the flu. What is the word that I am looking for?

The CDC...is over loaded with stuff for sure. Yes the media is having fun with this. And you can bet your ass that it is much, much, much worse than they are letting on.
I don't know how many of you have spent much time in Mexico. But third world and over population is beyong comprehension...
40 million alone in Mexico City. The are mostly poor. Very poor. They will die.
These flus get stronger. For the lymies who have weakened immune systems...yes you shoud be very careful...the is the last thing that you need to get right now.
Stay off of airplanes. Avoid crowds....target and walmart....and carry that hand sterilizer around...use it after you get cash...pump gas...open a darn door.....
