I just received a call from the nursing service telling me that I've been approved for 12 more weeks of IV Rocephin, which totals 6 months in all so far.  I'm still in shock but so relieved. 

I did three months and my doctor recently had me take a two week break.  To be honest from all I've heard I never imagined my insurance would approve iv treatment beyond this.  I found out this week that there was some miscommunication between the nursing company and insurance company and my doctor's request never reached the correct person.  I really thought this was a tactic on the insurance company's part.  I spoke to a higher up in medical management yesterday and he could tell that I was having a very difficult time speaking and agreed to call my doctor's office so I would not have to make another call.  Again, I thought this was just another tactic used in the denial process but I guess not because I just received a call saying meds will be delivered tonight.

I was told that my insurance company is known as one of the worst when it comes to approving iv's so I think this is a sign that things are finally starting to change in our favor.  If all goes well on the 30th, I truly believe change will happen more quickly and be more widespread.

That is great news. Keep fighting! Most Insurances only cover 30 days...you have hit the jackpot! YAH!!

Thank you. When I received the call I reacted as if I did hit the jackpot and truly feel as if I did. I just hope a trend is starting.

I am so very happy for you. You deserve this so much! I bet the person you talked too freaked when he heard how sick you were. I'm glad they got to "hear" you. Maybe that part of the law should change and insurance companies should have to come visit us to see how bad off we really are. I bet their mouth would drop to the floor.

Veromia, I really have not been feeling too well at all and am not sure if the brain issues worsening are from herxing, neuro-toxins. Although the three months of iv's did help with body and joint pain I didn't really start to see any improvement in fatigue and brain function. My doc thinks I will need to be on iv's for at least another year and has me on meds to help with detoxing. I'm also going to add the Zhang protocol but my doc wants me to wait a bit because he doesn't think my body can handle it all right now. I've been sick for a long time and this darn think has taken over my brain. At this pont, I'll do anything it takes to get it back. The fact that the insurance company is not even trying to dispute this is unbelievable.

Thanks CG. I really think in my case they might have also taken a look at how much it has cost them over the last 10 years of numerous doctors and specialists trying to get me better. Even though the iv therapy is extremely expensive if I actually get better it will save them quite a bit of money in the long-run. lol

Oh yeah I tried to joke with the insurance rep and told him the story about me walking out of the doctor's office with a hospital robe on. Maybe that got to him. LOL

LOL Scorpio! I'm hoping if I ever have to get on IV, that my insurance company feels the same way yours does. I have also spent alot of money in the past years trying to figure out what was wrong. I've been in the hospital a few times along the way too.

What insurance company do you have? You can email if you don't want to post it here.

I sure hope your brain gets back to normal soon. Email me anytime you need to talk:)

I keep fighting my LLMD about IV, since he wants a PICC line and I DO NOT. Crappy hospital where I live, and I would die from sepsis vs Lyme for sure! Can we say big chicken???

1bitten2xshy, There is no one who could be a bigger chicken than I was. I got so bad at one point it was actually comical and I had to laugh at myself at times. lol

If your llmd wants you to do it, you should listen to him and give it a try. Trust me, one valium works wonders and it really is not bad at all and for me to be saying that says a lot. I think the nursing service had me labeled as a "problem patient" because of the way I carried on over the phone even before it was done and now I'm fine with it. I'm also sure that no one believed I never experienced anxiety before with the way I was carrying on. LOL

CG, I have Empire BC/BS which from what I've been told is considered one of the worst when it comes to LD. Please feel free to contact me or ask me any questions also.

That is good news! Hope your brain issues will heal soon! I would expect the fatigue to be there as long as you're on the IV meds. and the only good thing about that is it forces you to rest so do what your body is saying to you!

1bitten2xshy, why don't you want to get a PICC line?  They are typically not a problem as long as the area is kept clean and dry.

Thanks Turkoise, I've been resting for over 4 years now. LOL My doc said the same thing about fatigue and being on the iv's but even when I took the two-week break it was just as bad. I guess my brain and body have a lot of repairing to do.

I am so happy and wish I felt well enough to celebrate, even a little, but can't even make a phone call. lol I called one friend but as usual had a difficult time speaking. Ugh!!! It's so frustrating!!

You guys just do not know what a bumble butt town we live in here. We have only had to go to the hospital 2X in the 7 years we have lived here, and both times it was HORRID.

We are the 5th poorest county in the state and it shows! They cannot get decent nor caring Dr.'s. Many of our local Dr.'s do not even have privledges at this hospital because it is so bad.

You hear all the time of people dying in the waiting room there.

I just know with my luck, something horrid would go wrong and I would have to go there....and well........

I had a mid line for a week, but the visiting nurse place we have here is so bad, she did not think I should be doing IV yada yada yada.  So she convinced my LLMD that my veins were not going to hold out (they were fine), and she did not want to use the dressing he wanted and refused to do so.  When she pulled my mid line,,,get this....I had a paper towel folded under my glass to catch the condensation, and when she pulled the line, she grabbed that paper towel and put it over the spot where she pulled the line!!!!  How sanitary is that???? shakehead
I am open to a mid line, but not a PICC. However, he wants to use Vanco...and you cannot use a midline for that. Too hard on the veins.

No, actually I am an Operations Manager for a Chemical and Haz. Waste Co.

I am very fortunate in the fact I have been with them almost 9 years now and for the past 7 years I have been able to tele commute. What a blessing that has been since I have become ill.

I cannot tell you in the beginning how many times I would grab the office phone and crawl into bed!

1bitten2xshy, I'm sorry you had such poor nursing services. That would make me nervous too. As for the hospital, can you go to another county to have it inserted?

Omg! How aweful that is that your hospital is that bad off! I'd be scared to go there too. And omg, I cannot believe she grabbed your napkin like that. If anyone did that here, they would have been fired. That napkin carries germs and your wound could have gotten infected! My gosh. It just blows my mind.

Yes I can go to another county to have inserted, that is not as much the issue as if something goes wrong and I have to have the line pulled. Sometimes I hear there is not alot of time to mess around and it needs to be pulled PRONTO and the next closest hospital is 50 mins from me.

That is not how it seems to be here. WOW one lesson this has taught me, when you are buying a new home CHECK out the Dr.'s and hospitals in the area.

I thought, great we have our own hospital right here in town and never gave it another thought. I could not have been more wrong.

Thanks Jaleenasmom, To be honest I'm till in shock. Since getting the diagnosis my plan has been that as soon as I'm well enough I would put my home up for sale so that I could continue treatment. I mistakenly thought that after three months of iv's I would be at that point but unfortunatley I'm lucky if I can get out of bed to get to my my doctor's appointments. lol This recent approval buys me a little more time.
