I have been very shaky lately and have had a lot of pain in my joints.
Went exploring on the internet to see what I could find about side-effects (my doctor is no help)

Yeah i agree, this i have known for some time now even the autism meds they are saying are making these kids heart race and even causing death. Some Lyme patients have a hard time taking certain abx and LLMD's have to find what works for certain patients we are all different and can only tolerate what are systems will allow us too.

If i take a lot of abx i get too shaky so i have to watch how much i take and listen to my body, outside of abx i only take naturals stuff but even that can be dangerous if you take to much. Someone told me once that you have to switch around a lot and don't take too much of anyone thing.

So, what are you saying? Don't take antibiotics at all? I was very surprised to see the first guy on there, I don't remember his name, but he was on Under Our Skin. I know he took antibiotics and got better. I bet he didn't give permission to be on that clip.

In my opinion, any medication you take can give you a side effect. Just like Levequin and it causing tendonitis.

I know there are some good natural protocols but in my opinion, this bacteria needs to be erradicated with antibiotics first. You may get shaky, have head jerks like I do, etc. What you are experiencing could be a herx.

I know you want to make everyone aware but I don't want this video to scare anyone out of taking their medication. It is extremely important for us to treat this disease as soon as we can whether it be with antibiotics, supplements, whatever one prefers.

I really appreciate this, woodswalker! My father has been on cipro for over a year and half. And he has been ill since starting on it. So I'm investigating what you have posted because it is very scary.

But in his case, I don't have an answer. He aquired enterobactor clocae after hip surgery and Dr says he must stay on cipro the rest of his life. Because this infection is so serious, the Dr believes that the threat of EB outweighs the possible damage of this long term abx.

Any ideas here?

The YouTube video seems to "try" to discourage anyone from taking antibiotics. That's the part I DONT like.

It's great to show different sides but I don't want anyone getting scared to continue their medication. That's why I spoke up.

And now that I've spoken up, I will stay out of this thread and you can talk amongst yourselves.

Yes, all information is important... Remember the saying "knowledge is power?"  

I don't view the youtube video's as trying to discourage anyone from taking antibiotics, I view it as being informative. 

My own personal opinion is that prescription drugs are big business!  Not only that, I feel that long term antibiotic use can do more harm than good.  

I have learned so much since I became infected in 1995, read many books about lyme, did tons of research and I think everyone should read as much as they can about alternative medicine, there are great books out there. 

Growing up I was "brainwashed" into thinking if I had an infection to take antibiotics until I became allergic to many of them.   Today I will avoid antibiotics as I find alternative medicine works much better (at least for me).   I had a tooth absess not that long ago and I made compresses from "living clay" where I would put the "gelled clay" on my tooth and gums, rinsed my mouth with apple cider vinegar, and some other things and that absess is long gone.   Now I am reading about oil-pulling.    There is so much out there that just fascinates me!

There is so much I still don't know about alternative medicine...   So I'm still learning.

Well I will chime in here. Antibiotics are a Godsend, when used correctly for what they are meant for. You have Doctors on both sides, those who are very hesitant to prescribe them and I am sure those who over prescribe. Though personally I have yet to meet or work with a Physician who over prescribes. It is usually the opposite case.

There are those antibiotics to which you need to be careful using. But you can say the same thing for Aspirin, Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Have you read the fine print on those?


To sum it up, do your research. But if you trust your physician, you should trust their judgement on what they are prescribing. If you do not, it is time to look for another Doctor.

Abx are good but not for long term. They are not meant to be a long time med.
And there are alot of blogs out there about abx and cancer.
But I did levaquine for 30 days..and it kicked my bart. so....
The Dr.s wanted me to take abx even after I was well and leaving the clinic..and I flately refused.
Seems everyone wants to give a miracle pill for any problem these days.
But I did OD on abx at first too....and man....I got so much worse, that for me, it did not work.
Doxy for 60 days after removing my tick did not work either.
But amoxy...which I cannot take....did a miracle on my 5 year old...1,200 a day for 30 days.
But a year later when we put them back on them for all of her probelms, she was unable to keep food down or walk. So I could not do that to her.
I only know of one women who got better on this forum from iv abx....and it took her and her daughters a year or so.
I choose not to go that way. Because I did not want to be sicker for the year that I had to be treated.
I like the 6 week treatment at envita better.

Here is my 2 cents...... An antibiotic almost killed me last year giving me stevens/johnson reaction and I lost layers of skin from my entire body from head to toe and was never so sick in my entire life. That said now I will tell you that Antibiotics have saved my life. We all need to find what our bodies can tolerate.  (No Flaming).

Antibiotics are not bad if one has bacteria to kill and those with Lyme sure have enough of that. I have tried the natural route but it did not work for me personally. I truly wish it had because I don't like supporting the (no flaming) pharmaceutical companies or taking unnatural things. In addition not many can afford the enormous cost of the many supplements that are needed to kill the bacteria and parasites that are left to us and not many have the time to wait for them to work as they do work much slower. And certainly not many can afford places like Evita.... Everyone wants to cash in on the sick and LLMDs are no exception.

Changing a sickness in the body at the cellular level is a slow process.
While I do take many natural supplements in addition to antibiotics, I find however that when I try to go off the meds, I backslide into the old horrible symptoms that I started with. Until someone comes up with something natural that will keep me well that I can afford, I am afraid I am stuck with meds and the pharmaceutical companies win---but so do I as I get some semblance of my life back that was taken by the tick that fed on me.

Thank you for posting this!  It is a real eye opener to see how the FDA works, or should I say doesn't work?   I can't believe that those doctors prescribed Levaquin for sinus infections that's unreal.

Thanks for posting this. It took some courage as on most forums if you don't tow the antibiotic line, you can be kind of "blackballed".

I'm awfully sorry to say that kf anyone has gotten well after the megadoses of antibiotics, they are not posting here or anywhere else. I'm not discouraging folks from taking anything they think makes them better. I am encouraging more folks to post their success stories!

I believe antibiotics do palliate chronic lyme symptoms and there's nothing wrong with that!

I know maybe in trouble for saying that too. I'd guess I'm just saying this: would people in remission from the megadosing please come out and post!?!

I definitely didn't want anyone to take me wrong here. I believe that people heal in different ways. Everyones body is different. When I saw the video, I reallized that the guy that was a park ranger on Under Our Skin, was shown on this video as well. This guy was on antibiotics for four years. I'm not sure if he took anything natural with it but he is alot better now. I found it weird that he didn't talk on this video and was just "shown" on it making it look like he agreed with not taking antibiotics too. I'm sure he didn't give his permission to be on there. It looked like a pieced together video, trying to get people to believe that antibiotics are bad. That's just my opinion and what I got from it. I didn't want anyone getting scared out of taking their medicine. This is a very serious disease and sometimes people look at videos or things like that and wind up making the worst mistake of their lives. That's what I was trying to get through here.

I do believe in taking natural supplements as well. I take a ton of them with my antibiotics. I'm also thinking about continuing on a more natural route when I feel I am ready.

I hope everyone understands what I am trying to say now.
