Rifampin and Zith for bart

Hi Dar.  I would think it would be okay to take them at the same time, but ask your doctor to make sure.  Also ask the doctor if he/she wants you to take two Zithromax at one time or one twice a day.  I once assumed it was to be taken twice daily, but my doctor wanted me to take it all at once.  It is better to find out for sure.

twingirl, I am on that combo now. I take them both together each 2 times a day On an empty stomach according to Dr. H.

One hour before meals or 2 hours after is what the literature says.

Some say that Zithro is a weak meds, but I have been on it on and off for 2 1/2 years and it has made me feel better. I have been on Rifampin since September and feel better from that also. I feel pretty good most days however whenever I feel like I can go off antibiotics the symptoms come raging back within 2 weeks. I also have been on cowden with no success. Dr. H thinks it is due to one of the so-infections I have but doesn't know which one. So I continue to say on the meds.

I had a test by igenex that was positive. Testing is not reliable, it is usually a clinical diagnosis. I have most of the bart symptoms and was tested for bart after getting a streaky red rash under my armpit that looked identical to one in a Burrascano slide show.

Let me know how it goes with the rifampin. I just started last night. Do you know how long you will be on it??

this has to be bart.. woke up today and noticed another scratch on my lower stomach.. this is the 2nd time this has happened that i've noticed. It seems like it happens when i changed ABX. The last 2 times i've changed, i've gone 1 day without ABX and the next day i have a scratch or scratches on me..

i just took my first rifampin. i thought about taking zithro with it. it wouldn't hurt right?

my mg on rifampin is 150mg at twice a day, and zithro is 250mg twice a day..

what should i do? i want to kill it

I was on Rifampin for Bart and couldnt handle it many ABX are just to much for me even in small amounts!! I know it works cause for the week I did take it I was a wreck! Hang in there is I could of stayed on it I would have but it wasnt an option, I now take zithromax! It's seem to be helping I just have to work why way up little by little the dosage!! To give you the heads up the Rifampin hit the neurological Lyme hard and made me feel like I was going nuts and it made me more anxious so if it does start to happen to be alarmed I was a the time but my LLMD reassured me it was the Meds!! Drink lots of water!!! Best of luck!! Bart is hard to get rid of mine doesnt want to get lost already! :)

 Using my infared sauna helped with the Herx too if you have one or access to one!!! Sweat it out!

Twingirl-Do you still go to Dr Z ?? That was you and your sister that went to him right?? Unless my memory is tricking me again! :)

I have been on Rifampin since September with no ill effects. I also take Zithro with it 2 x a day on an empty stomach for the best absorbtion. Rifampin can turn urine, tears, sweat and stools orange! It is normal.
This combination has been good for me. Rifampin has definately made bart symptoms better.
