Uh oh! Went off antibiotics and now paying the price...

I'll be honest and admit that I had to move my office (by myself), had company coming, excuses, more excuses - so I went off antibiotics so I'd feel okay. I felt pretty good for the first two weeks - then BAM!!! All symptoms came back - especially the short-term memory loss, i.e. "what's the word for that? oh yeah, it's a fork." I thought I was having little strokes - the entire right side of my body was numb and the left hurt.

I've always followed the advice of my LLMD and now will continue to do so. I found liquid Mepron made my heart beat really fast and made me uncomfortable, so I'm on three different medications now.

When the heck is this going to end? I know no one really knows - but heck, I am so tired of being tired.

I am really glad I discovered this board and guess I should introduce myself - my name is Victoria and I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. I remember pulling a tick off myself in the late 70's and then getting really sick, so I've had this for quite some time. I was tested by Igenix, but for the life of me can't make heads or tales out of the results. Hopefully I'll remember where I put the results

This place is great for support and you have come to the right place. So many are in your shoes with the abx.
I too did them heavily and when I would go off of them it would all come back. Harder and harder each time.

I got all of my support on this forum. At least you have many who can understand what you are going through. And the best Dr.s are the ones that have lyme too.

What you do need is a Dr. who would only be interested in building your immune system back up. That is the worst thing about lyme is that is ruins your own bodies defense. And then all of the symptoms that appear read like one good book on auto immubne disease. If you can find one then you will see that you have all of the auto immune diseases in the whole book.

The abx can do brain damage and put you in a bad fog....it did for me. I forgot how to drive one day, and could not finish a sentence.

Antibiotics saved my life. I too have had Lyme a long time since the 80's that I know of. Just started treated 2 1/2 years ago.

Martha's vinyard is correct about the key of being able to build your immune system up. It is our immune system that heals our bodies not antibiotics..However one's immune system cannot do that easily until some serious bacteria is killed. Many times herbals don't do it especially when Lyme has had years to get deeply into your body. It will be a slow process but you can do it. I was very sick 3 years ago, dragged my entire left side and had headaches that would cause one to want to rip the head off. After seeing no less than 32 doctors who took insurance I finally got a LLMD and paid out of pocket-best thing I ever did.

Luckily unless herxing in the beginning the antibiotics have always allowed me to function well enough to do everyday things that I needed to do. I have been able to maintain my own practice and have even installed marble floors while on IV! My goal is to get off oral meds and take only herbals to maintain wellness. I think I can try that again soon now that my thyroid is under better control. We will see. It is a crap-shoot.

Have you had your thyroid tested with the proper tests-not just the typical thyroid panel?
Have you been tested and or treated for co-infections????VERY IMPORTANT in order to get Lyme into remission.
