went over today and picked up all my Igenex results, they all came back negative. but my WB shows otherwise.. i'm going to post all the bands and the results.. i'm not sure what these mean, i hope ticker or someone can shed some light on what i have.. i'm going to fax these results to my LLMD tomorrow morning.

it says for ** see below

There should be two sets of data - IgG and IgM.  Did the other set show anything?

James, we had the same bands positive! Except I did not have 30. I did have 2 other "ind" which I don't even know what those were. No doubt I am dealing with Lyme. My LLMD said the bands that I had positve are specific. I know others may argue that but my LLMD is the one I trust most right now and I am taking his word for it. Some say 66 and 58 are seen a lot with coinfections but some argue that point, too.

Hi,

My tests results states this (below) and i'm wondering if i do have lyme. Please help interprete if you have the same results or know what this means. I did this test on my own through Lab Corp (privately), when i described some symptoms to my doctor and she said I had MS. She's currently on vacation so I can't ask her now.

IgG P41 - Present Abnormal
IgG P23 - Present Abnormal
IgM P41 - Present Abnormal
IgM P23 - Present Abnormal
Lyme IgM WB Interp Positive Abnormal

IgM 39 is absent, IgG P93, 66,58,45,39,30,28, and 18 were also absent. Lyme IgG WB Interp was also absent.

Anyone here to tell me what this means? is it Lyme or MS. I'm going out of my mind worrying. I need to be prepared. Thanks.

ariel1821, welcome to the board.

i to have IgM bands 23 & 41, witch i was told by 3 Dr.s is positive , showing a new infection. witch can happen yrs even after you have been bit. and band 23 is a Bb spicefit band from what i have learned.

and i to was told to rule out MS first, witch i did. nuero said I do NOT have MS.

if you have a LLMD your going in the right direction. others here who know more maybe of a lot more help to you tho. as i am still learning too.

Thank you Doug. Now I know i have to look for an LLMD for further discussion. I see that everyone in NJ goes to Dr. E., so I will contact her soon.


I don't even know when this happened. For the past 3 to 4 weeks, I've been having serious symptoms that seems to have disappeared this week, so i didn't know what to think.

Hi Ariel and James,

Well James, it must be a relief to finally have your test results back! Of course, I'm sure you would have preferred them to be blazingly positive, but at least now you have something.

And Ariel- your symptoms magically "disappearing" is classic Lyme- the symptoms come and go and move around until you think you're going crazy

why couldn't it be 2 or 3 positives per band.. i mean a positive is a positive regardless on how many it takes to be reported.. i mean if you have hiv or something terminal are they going to say your negative because you only show 1 positive band.. crazy

Igenex called my PCP and told him to run the EBV test and he said he did already and it was positive. So they think thats why i have a Positive WB.. JEEZ..

Here is the WB that alfers posted in Newbies section.  I'm posting cause Im getting ready for my LLMD appt and don't have time to match stuff up, but so you guys can look at.  James, I have EBV (plus 2 other viruses) and my thought is that shows suppression of our immune system, but I will get input from my Dr on that and see if he agrees w/ what your Dr said.

Here you can look up your bands:

The IgM tests for a more recent infection and the IgG a longer standing one. Below is the breakdown of the Western Blot bands:

9 cross-reactive for Borrellia
12 specific for Bb
18 unknown
20 cross-reactive for Borrellia
21 unknown
22 specific for Bb, probably really the 23/25 band
23-25 outer surface protein C (OspC), specific for Bb
28 unknown
30 unknown; probably an outer surface protein; common in European and
one California strain
31 outer surface protein A (OspA), specific for Bb
34 outer surface protein B (OspB); specific for Bb
35 specific for Bb
37 specific for Bb
38 cross-reactive for Bb
39 is a major protein of Bb flagellin; specific for Bb
41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia
45 cross-reactive for all Borellia (sometimes people with Lyme who have this band positive also have the co-infection Ehrlichiosis)
50 cross-reactive for all Borrellia
55 cross-reactive for all Borrellia
57 cross-reactive for all Borrellia
58 unknown but may be a heat-shock Bb protein
60 cross reactive for all Borrellia
66 cross-reactive for all Borrelia, common in all bacteria
83 specific antigen for the Lyme bacterium, probably a cytoplasmic membrane
93 unknown, probably the same protein in band 83, just migrates differently in some patients

Band 41 is often the first to show. Bands 30, 31, 34, and 39 are all Lyme specific bands.

With the EBV positive, it would be good to pursue Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If you look at the lists of symptoms for Lyme anc CFS - they're essentially the same.

My Dr. works primairly with CFS and Fibro patients. I went to her thinking I had CFS that would never be diagnosed. Not suprisingly, in the course of testing CFS and Fibro people, she has run into a number of LD cases (I'm one of them).

Many many Lymies have positive EBV, HHV6 and Cyto virus. It is certainly NOT uncommon for these to be positive.

igG show 4 bands positive. So i have something... i can't believe they are blowing me off.. I have faxed these to my LLMD yesterday, and have yet heard from him..

Do i stay on Rifampin for 60 more days with zthro? or do i just stop completly and take supplements..

Your treatment protocol is up to you and your LLMD.

However, if he Rx'd you the Rifampin, I would certainly continue it.

Actually, I'm positive on all the viruses Dr checked me for. So the results of my CD57 which I BETTER get today are really important, I believe. And I better ask him if I should test for any others (positive EBV, HHV6 and parvovirus B19)

I have never heard of a virus causing the WB to be positive. I too have Epstein Barr, HHV6 and Cytomegalovirus. The reason we pick up these viruses is because our immune system is supressed.

Did your doctor do a CD57?

James, did you ever have mono in the past?  Did your PCP do 4 mono tests?

My LLMD ordered 4 and only received 3 results (one of the Igms missing), so he was peeved. He said it showed I had mono in the past (and I did) and that my results show that I probably have a reactivated infection.  He said there is debate on this, even tho my numbers are bolded 'high, out of range'.  The missing IgM would have helped.  From the research I did all day awhile back, I think my test is clearly positive.  Same for the other viruses.

I'm sorry, I don't understand enough about the ***s, but it seems to me you have enough of these to seek a Lyme diagnosis. Agreed -- see what your LLMD says.  I'd  be inclined to keep taking the abx until you've been able to talk to  him, poorly as you feel.

Ariel,  your results state 'Lyme IgM WB Interp Positive Abnormal'.  Doesn't this mean the lab has said you are positive for lyme?

As hard as we all are struggling for the answers and the Truth, we need to remember that it is just as difficult as it is for those suspected of a lot of other diseases, too, like MS, Parkinsons, etc.

41 means a spirochete is detected, 58 means the spirochete has a heat shock protien which means that this cannot be the syphlis spirochete because the syph does not have a heat protecter shock protien (showing that it can withstand heat or not) so it eludes toward the borrelia which does have the heat shock protien which is why it it significant. And the CDC considers 30 as important, and is prob close to specific for bb.

Thanks for that info on band 58. I was wondering why some docs thought it was significant. Does the dental disease spirochete have a heat shock protien?

Old thread bump. Any opinions on Lovelabs questions?

I am noticing a pattern of similar bands to us in Missouri. My Igg had the exact same bands as the original poster.

Is anybody tracking which bands are popping up in people in which regions?

If not, I volunteer.

Yep 30, 41, 58, 66 exact match. I have see a few other midwesterners/ Missourians with exact same or very very close pattern. I hope Igenex is tracking this stuff. It could lead to very significant finds
