David Letterman - Anaplasmosis

Soooo, we just finished watching "Gone With The Wind" and were looking for Cosby or something light for a few minutes.

We saw that Letterman was going to have an elephant on the show (I am just a sucker for these gorgeous animals) and stopped to watch. We do not watch Letterman so it is really interesting b/c when we landed on the station he was describing some debilitating symptoms he recently experienced, making fun at his relatives all coming for the reading of his will, describing how death defying his sickness had become. He kept it light but said that his sickness was worse than his quadruple bypass.

I looked at Heth, she looked at me - "Lyme disease" - just as he asked his audience if they'd like to know what it is. He held up a plackard: "Anaplasmosis" and asked, Do you know what that is? And held up the next card: "Tick-Borne Disease".

He said his wife did not want him to go to work; but he said "You know what they say. If you can walk, the show must go on" (or something like that).

I kid u not!
He said he was so sick; must have just returned tonight; must have been away for a time.
He showed a plackard that had a blown up picture of cells w/the bacteria.
No kidding!!

I am going now to call him. I mean it!

I just wrote him an 'educational' letter from our family! I hope his treatment is effective and there are no further concerns.

I watch him every night, he never missed a day of work. Worked right throught it so, he said he was deathly ill but was still there doing the show. He has only been sick for less than a week, I wish him a full recovery.    D

I disagree with the people who are attacking David Letterman for trying to be funny about this illness. He clearly stated it was the worst thing he'd experieced and I shuddered when he said, 'worse than Shingles and his quadruple by-pass.' If the man was not trying to educate us, why did he bore us needlessly with his slide show about the white-cell eating condition? I felt, even before he announced he is ill, that he looked and sounded awful and loopy. David has millions of viewers all over the world. How wonderful that he showed us all how dangerous sleeping in tree houses can be. I am thankful, and I am sure he is thankful, that Harry was not inflicted by this horrible condition. I am hoping that David has a full recovery because I have spent all my life watching him and can't imagine if he retires due to this serious chronic illness. Instead of blasting him for his efforts, please praise him for his efforts and wish him a speedy full recovery for our sake and for Harry's sake.

I don't remember anyone "blasting" him for being sick. He did have a segment where he was making fun of Lyme Disease. I asked if he did this before he was diagnosed with Anaplasmosis. If so, I'm sure he got a HUGE wake up call.

No one here "makes fun of" or takes having any disease lightly. We are ALL suffering here. Please read a post carefully before posting something like that in your very first post.
