Another frustrating dr. apt. !

Waited long and hard for this month's apt. only to be told that swollen, red, hot knee is probably not from lyme.  WHAT!  Probably something I am doing causing tendonitis which the lyme will make worse.  OMG!  I ask about a herx and he said they last only about a week and not a month like this knee has been, on and off.  Is that the case?  Also, other knee is bothering, headaches have returned, flank pain is back, different symptoms everyday, isn't that what happens with herx? 

He has agreed to keep treating and I will start doxy after vacation for erlichosis.  This is a very nice infectious disease dr. who came recommended by lyme assoc.  The first LLMD I went to didn't look me in the eye, gave me short one word answers, and I was out in 15 minutes after waiting over 3 years for diagnosis.

So frustrating but I guess I shouldn't complain since there are those a  lot worse off than me.

I'm so sorry hun:( I know how frustrating it can be when you have your hopes up and a doctor smashes it down to the ground. In my case, I have herxed for two weeks straight. My symptoms began diminishing over time but I was still having some symptoms two weeks later. I've never had a swollen, red knee so I don't know if it is a herx or not but I have heard of people having that as a symptom. My joints in my kness and elbows hurt when I'm herxing but they never get swollen. That meeting that we all watched on the 30th had a picture of a swollen knee as one of the classic signs of Lyme Disease.

Anyway, is he doing anything to help your knee? I mean, if he thinks it's not caused by Lyme, what is he doing to help you get some relief?

i cant say if its a herx or not as i have not been on abx, but 2 yrs ago my right knee blow out on me. i had a lot of trouble with it for some time b4 that. its like it just give out. when i went to the ER after i couldnt walk on it at all. and it was the size of my hip. the X-ray showed nothing was wrong with it. i was then sent to a ortho(sports med DR) he ran a MRI. showed i had 4 things wrong with my knee. tore my ACL, and meniscus and damage do to arthritis, and i cant remember the last one right now.

i had my surgery on it over a yr ago now, and still have trouble with it. and i have started haven trouble with my left knee but not near what i do with my right.

if it was me, i would go to a sports med and get them to run a MRI of your knee. then maybe go from there. i have no faith in IDs do to what i went thro with the one i was sent to.

i understand how hard it if to have your knees hurt you. and i wish you well soon.
