reoccuring rash in same spot...Lyme?

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and an avid mt biker, so every so often I do have ticks attached from woods of NJ & NY. about 3-4 months ago, I woke up with what looked like a large mosquito bite w/ a small rash around it. I never get rashes so this seemed odd. By the end of the day the rash was about 3-4 inches wide and the bite was oozing. I figured I'd wait a couple days to see what the rash did before seing a dr. It ended up going away in about 3-4 days. Fast forward to now (3-4 months later) and I've been getting that exact same big mosquito bite looking bump popping up on my forearm in the exact spot and it's always accompanied by a very small rash. This happens atleast twice a month, but it only stays on my arm for a day.  It also iches for the first few minutes.  Does this sound like a tick reaction? Is it common for a bite bump and/or rash to reappear? I've been researching online a lot and wanted to see if anyone else encountered this. Thanks so much for your help  in advance.

welcome to the board.

next time your rash shows up, take a pic of it and place something close to it for size(ruler or coin) this could help your DR in a Dx. and i would say to go to a LLMD for best results.

have you read the tread at the top of the main lyme page? if not plz do so you can learn a lot in there too.

Welcome to the forum!

Do as RD suggested and get a picture of it next time. Put a coin by it to give it size definition.

EM rashes can come back and then go away again. Do you have any other symptoms?

Hi CajunGrl & RottenDog! Thanks so much for your replies. I checked out lots of the info on this site and it's all helpful. I guess I'm just not sure if what I have is Lyme so I'm not sure about seeing a doc just yet. I know that my primary will just do the regular lyme test which I read is not very accurate and I don't know of any LLMD's in the NJ area, but I have been looking for them online. I do have photos of the original rash and of the small ones that I keep getting.

Can the original EM rash last only a few days? Since mine only did last a few days I'm wondering if maybe it's not Lyme. The thing that keeps reappearing on my arm looks like a large mosquito bite. Has anyone had that happen before?

I should mention that I did get a sorethroat/cold a few weeks after the original rash, but no fever. And I currently have continuous little sharp pains in my neck and throat problems that I have looked into but the dr couldn't find anythng wrong. Also, experiencing elbow and back pain. The thing is I'm very active, so I'm not sure if my pains are just from being active.

I dont know much about the rash because I never had one. I would look into lyme. The pains could just be because you are active, but I always would get sharp pains, and elbow pain I would not take a chance.

My rash would reactivate so to speak at least once a month. It hasn't come bck at all since I started the Zhang herbs.

mt biker -- I would highly suspect lyme in your story, based soley on your bite and your reaction. But also, because of your other symptoms, I think you need to be tested for all the known TBIs.

Lyme Forum: Don't mt biker's symptoms sound like they should test for Erlichwhatever and Rocky Mt spotted fever, at least? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these the most common to accomany sore throats and such.

Yes, your original EM rash can last for only a few days. I'm not sure what's going on with the bite that keeps coming back.

Just keep an eye out for symptoms. And if you ever need an LLMD, let me know.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your help and ideas. Now that you've confirmed some of my own thoughts, I'm starting to really think it may be Lyme or one of the others so I will begin my search for someone in or around NJ to take a look at the photos. CajunGirl, I will email you to see if you know of any in the NJ area. You all have been such a big help! Thanks!

Biker, when you are having the rash and w/ your photos, you may want to get intoa pcp or ever ER. (I don't remember if you have?) They should be trained to note the rash and begin treatment. SOMEONE needs to see your rash -- even if it is not a TBI, sounds like something that needs to be seen asap.

Thanks +Lyme, You are right. I was just getting the photos from my phone. Hopefully the images will be good enough. I also noticed that I keep getting a mild sore throat & cold a day or two after each time the bump/rash reappears.
