Question about getting better on meds

There is no easy answer to your question. I started on Doxy a couple of days after my bite. But was not on in long enough as it turns out (was on it for 3 weeks) and the Lyme came back a couple of months later way worse than it was when I first got bit. At a guess, 28 days will not be enough time. I was told you really need 6 weeks minimum. I am just really feeling like myself again after over 2 years. Realistically, if the treatment is successful, it still takes a few months to feel better. The cells damaged by Lyme are still damaged when the Lyme is dead. They need to regenerate, which takes time. Really consider an infrared sauna to help detox. They are less than $200 new and will help your body fight this.

I'm afraid I can't help much but offer to share the wait with you. I started on Doxy 100 mg 2x daily 6 weeks after exposure. I am on day 13 of 28 days and I am feeling mixed results - less headaches, maybe slightly less fatigue, but more muscle aches, more joint pain, more stiffness in my hands.

I will tell you this: I am actively trying to convince my NLLMD for a higher/longer dosage. If I am unsucessfull with her I am going to email and fax a letter to the Infectious Disease MD she is sending me to and make my case with him, plus look for a LLMD. I'm curious: are you seeing a lyme literate MD? do you know when your exposure was? (I apogize if you have posted this elsewhere, I am a newbie trying to get up to speed with everything).

I got bitten 8/2008 - 8/4/9 reg physician put me on 30 days doxy pending referral to infectious disease doc 9/2/9. I don't feel better at all - some symptoms worse.
I also believe I need to be on higher dosage and am seeking LLMD.

Dosage

Increasingly, clinicians recommend that certain drugs used for Lyme disease be given at higher daily doses: for example, 3,000–6,000 mg of amoxicillin, 300–400 mg doxycycline, and 500–600 mg of azithromycin. Some clinicians prescribe antibiotics using blood levels to guide higher doses. Close monitoring of complete blood counts and chemistries are also required with this approach.
