Swine flu shot and Lyme

Nope, they are rushing this vaccine and really have yet to do the trials. Not for me thanks. How many times have we seen an abx come out on the market and then a year later find it being pulled or some very severe side effects. Heck, look at the Lyme vaccine!

But, each person has to do what they feel is best for them and their family.  I know alot of LLMD's are telling their patients to bone up on taking Vit. D3 to help avoid the flu.

On another note, I am not sure if I have the flu or a rotten cold. Uggh. Heading off to the PCP at 2 today....if I can keep my head held up long enough to drive 15 mins one way!

I'm not touching this vacc w/ a 10 ft pole. As 1bitten says, it has been rushed and we have learned thta FDA approval doe not mean they have completed enough clinical trials. WE will be the trials!

I don't know enough to tell anyone else not to get it, but I am scared of it. But I plan to keep my hands washed (try NOT using the heavy duty antibacterial hand stuff), and I'm staying on C, garlic, Echinwhatever, along w/ other stuff. And I'll get to the Dr at the first sign.

I think as Lymies we all need to take extra care to keep ourselves well this cold and flu season.

I know I am very careful where I go. Even try to stay out of Wally World when it is busy. Use the hand wipes at the grocery store for the cart handle. Carry hand sanitzer with me to use after ATM pads or gas handle pumps..etc.

Also, my oldest daughter who just moved back home for the 5th time (groan) works at a pharmacy and  she is the one that brought home whatever I now have. She is fine..anyway, I told her from now on she has to wear a face mask if she comes home ill again and try and stay in her room as much as possible. While I know you are contagious lots of times before you show signs, I hope this maybe will keep the sickness down here this year. My husband is a public official and meets with alot of people each week...I too have him using hand sanitzer, wiping down his phone and keyboard at work.

Probably sounds like I have some type of OCD going on here...but an ounce of prevention and a can of Lysol....may help get me thru the rest of the year!

I agree with you 1bitten. You don't sound like you have OCD. You're just being cautious because when we get sick, we really get sick. It can be dangerous for us having such a low immune system.

I'm not getting the swine flu shot, but I am getting the regular flu shot. I get it every year and it definitely helps. When I worked for a Chiropractor a few years ago, everyone had the flu but me. I was thankful I had taken that shot.

Dr. R in nyc suggested my husband not get the vaccine...i however will most likely be getting it so that i don't bring home anything to him...have always gotten fllu shots in the past and have been fine...

I agree!! I figure we will deal with it if we have to. I to have looked at some articals and I just cant chance givig it to my son. Not to mention if the swine flu mutates to a different type the shot will not be effective anyway. I guess we will just take more vit c, and d.

i'm around the swine flu all day, i work in retail, and my staff is 90% college kids, and some are sick with H1N1 so i'm going to end up with it, i hope not, but i' can't escape it.. i think most of us will come into contact with it sometime this year, its totally up to our bodies to fight it or not

Heard a doctor talking about Swine Flu the other day. He said wash your hands and if you have to cough or sneeze and do not have a tissue don't use your hand use your sleeve. Sounds sensable to me except it's still warm and many wear short or sleeveless shrts. Oh well carry those tissues guys.

I've decided to get the shot because I'm practically over LD just a little fatigue and mild morning tremors left. Sounds great except I was diagnosed last Tuesday with breast cancer. Still stunned over that and what's to come.

Just read Dagger's post....changed my mind, no SF shot for me.

My husband is on dialysis and he got a shot at the center. So far he seems OK.

Dagger one big problem us Lymies have is a weakened immune system. So while a flu shot may not be a "big deal" for most...for us Lymies it takes alot of consideration!

On the bright side, I do not have the flu! I do however have an upper resp. infection. Ugghhh. Still feel like dog poop left out in the sun to dry. Of course it is my luck when I have a 4 day weekend to be ill :(.

My PCP was not in, so I got to see a different one. A young guy who I really liked. He told me NOT to get the swine flu shot for the reasons of not enough trials on it. He did say to get the regular flu shot. I was very suprised to hear this coming from a PCP and it had nothing to do with me having/had Lyme.

I've been getting the regular flu shot every year with no problems. Thank God! My immune system was pretty low when I started the shots too. It was only at 23. It really worked for me. Now as far as my husband, he caught the flu when he got the flu shot, lol. Poor thing. It's weird because he's never sick. I guess that just proves how different we all are and how our bodies deal with certain things.
