I am writing from Indiana and not worried about finding a doctor or anything like that quite yet-my question for everyone is what other "Diseases" "disorders" etc. were they possibly given before the lyme diagnosis? My boyfriend currently is experiencing many (ok a lot) of the symptoms of Lyme disease. He doesn't believe he has ever been biten by a tick but i  told him it could have been so small he didn't know?! He has gone to many different drs. and the only thing they can tell him is his epstein barr levels are high and there is nothing he can do but basically rest when he is tired. He (and I) both just keep feeling like something else is going on here and I was watching mystery diagnosis on TLC and a young girl found out she had Lyme disease after going through 2+ years of no answers from drs. and many other misdiagnoses. I started researching the disease and have found so much information and stories that are similar to what my boyfriend is experencing! Even if Lyme was the final result, I am asking for other misdiagnoses (ie diseases and what not with very similar symptoms) because it has reached the point of us doing the research and going to doctors and insisting on tests for things because we are getting no where with what we have been told. Maybe we can narrow it down so to speak with things and knowing his specific symptoms and go to a dr. and insist on the testing for them.

Hello from Long Island to Indiana!

First of all ticks have a numbing agent so one doesn't even feel a tick bite..  The size of a tick could be as tiny as a grain of sand..  Most people never even see them..

Ticks are not the only bugs that can infect a person, research shows that black flies, mosquitoes, fleas, etc. can infect a person...

Doctors told me I got lyme from a spider bite.. 

Bottom line:  The "host" of most lyme bacteria is the White Footed Mouse and whatever blood sucking vector feed on these mice carry lyme bacteria..  Thus ticks are not exclusive.. I always said ticks get too much credit!

I would advise to get a free testing kit from IgeneX and your boyfriend should be tested (the kit is free but you need to get a doctor's signature for the test plus the test costs money).

Welcome to the forum! Lyme Disease can mimic many other diseases. I was told I had EBV too. I felt so bad. I was very tired all the time too. Then, I was diagnosed with CFS and Fibromyalgia. You can actually still have those with Lyme Disease.

Other diseases that Lyme Disease mimics are ALS, Yeast, Parkinsons Disease and sometimes mold exposure can have the same symptoms as Lyme Disease.

Find a doctor and get him tested. This disease progresses and the symptoms get worse. I will post a list of symptoms for you here. If you have any other questions, please ask them.

Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing

When Lyme disease is a possibility, it is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor. Many doctors do not understand Lyme and treat with outdated protocols. No test is completely reliable, and results can vary by lab.

It is also important to learn as much as possible. I recommend reading Dr. Joseph Burrascano's 2005 Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines For Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses at 1. http://www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html He is one of the top Lyme doctors in the country, and many Lyme doctors follow his protocols. I also recommend the book "Everything You Need To Know about Lyme Disease (2nd edition)" by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner.

Hello Cajungirl. I haven't been to the forum for quite some time. I thought i was rid of lyme and really was enjoying not thinking about it. You have obviously done your homework. I have found homeopathic remedies this time after failing to get well with antibiotics and with herbal remedies. The prayers plus homeopathics are getting me straightened out in record time. Are you well? I would love to share this information with anyone who might be interested.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful insight and help! It is helpful to have these things at hand or know where to go for more information that is worth it because there is SO much on the web and SO much that isn't anything that I've wasted time on reading to be honest.

Sparkie-i would be interested in hearing about the herbal remedies and homeopathic treatment you have done? I find it interesting when people have more results with natural fixes than antibiotics and am also hearing more and more stories from people who are using such remedies and having better luck so to speak than with dr. orders...of course not everyone and every case but still interested in hearing more.

leacna - I felt compelled to respond because I was born a "Hoosier" - haha! Yes, Lyme can be misdaignosed as Epstein Barr, Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, MS, Parkinsons, etc., etc. It is important to be tested "correctly" for Lyme disease, co-infections, etc. ASAP. And then antibiotic treatment can be started (or other "natural" treatments... whichever he decides) ASAP.

I would love to know the homeopathic remedy for Lyme. I use homeopathy for my children and myself, but hadn't found one for Lyme yet and have been so dissapointed that I've had to take abx and they aren't' working for me.
