Seriously people. What gives? Three nights ago, I'm petting my cat and I see a bump on her face (she is white). So, I check it out, which she was really impressed with, and it is a huge freakin tick. So, I get out the tweezers and frontline spray...spray it...wait...and pluck it out. No biggie. The very next day, my other cat has a bump on the back of her neck. So, I check it out...another giant tick! So, I repeat the process and kill this one as well. I put that stuff on the back of their necks that is supposed to kill fleas, ticks, etc. But, what good is it if the tick has to attach itself and then bite my cats before they die? What if they are attaching, and then getting into my house? skull   Gross!!!!!

Aside from getting rid of my kitties which I will not do! sad   What can I do here? They both are indoor/outdoor and I can't not let them out. They've been that way their whole lives and they make a serious fuss if I don't let them out. But, I don't want to get bit again and get sicker, or get some other infection. Nor do I want those nasty little bugs in my house! Ugh! I am disgusted!

I had to introduce my outdoor kitties to major distractions and other kitty type fun inside the house. They howl and scratch at the door and are otherwise displeased to say the least but slowly, slowwwwwwwly, they are getting the point. No more outdoors! We have what they call Fisher-Cats outside (I don't know much about them except they are rather large and hang out in trees and they feed on cats) so there have been a LOT of "missing cat" signs in our neighborhood. So there was another reason to keep the kitties inside. Everyone in my family has had Lyme (my parents got treated early) and I'm still going through the IV process. My dad has the yard sprayed for Ticks every month but I'm still afraid to even walk near the grass or leaves.
I'm actually looking at amazon right now to see if I can find some more kitty toys that will entertain them inside. If I let them continue to bring ticks inside then I can never be sure I'll be well enough to take care of them. So, indoor kitties they are now!

you may want to check into useing Biospot insted of frontline. its also alot cheaper too. i have used it for yrs now and never have ticks on my pets anymore. i only use it if i see a tick. witch i have not seen here in Tx in my yard in 3 yrs now.

also if at all your able to retrain your cats to stay inside it is way better for them. as most places have strays and they can spred a number of things to your babies. my cat never goes outside unless she is leashed and my dogs are there too. keeps her safe and sound.LOL

you can also get some stuff thats a gralic base to it to spray your yard to keep ticks away. it works too. think yardgard makes it.

Frontline has been used so heavily, that ticks are actually immune to it's effects. I have started using "Comfortis" for my dogs for fleas & the "Advantix" tick collar for ticks - of course.

I know all about the whole controversy over tick collars, but I've had two dogs with the bulls eye rash. Since I am very well aware of what it is like

to live with Lyme & co's, I believe I am doing the best I can for them.

I know I should make them stay inside. It's just that the one kitty is 12 years old and has always been indoor/outdoor. She isn't happy inside alone. And, the other one is a stray that i took in and was outside her whole life until now. She gets mad just being inside at all on some days. She drives me nuts a lot:)
We have a bobcat here that could easily eat them. We had a panther for a while too, but no one has seen him in a while. So, I make sure my kitties are in before dark. Maybe I will have to make some changes:( I just feel so badly for them having to stay inside after all this time. But, dangit, I can't have ticks in my house!
Thanks for all the advice. I am going to have to spray the yard and fields and change products on them and go from there!

I just bought Comfortis for the first time; that stuff's expensive. And the veterinarian still recommends using Frontline as well, which is also expensive. Does Biospot take care of fleas and ticks?

yes boispot takes care of both. and works great. my male has only been bit 2 time by a flea in almost 11 yrs. he is allgeric to them, so both times it cost me a 200 dollar vet bill.

Oh my! See I was using revolutions which really doesn't help much with ticks. I bought frontline spray though, but my lazy butt didn't use it. Way to go Ang, right?

Anyway, if you have small pets, the frontline spray ends up being cheaper than the stuff that you buy in single applications. You can still apply just to the back of the neck, it is just like 1 or 2 sprays per pound (your pet's weight). So, if your animals area small, you can use it for quite some time and the spray bottle was in the $40's. I just didn't use it because I'm lazy. You can also use it if your animal has a tick. You spray it on, wait a couple of minutes while it kills the tick and then pick it off. I am still not good at that. I don't think they die before I pluck them out:(

My one cat is allergic to the revolutions because last time I put it on her, within 12 hours she was bald in that whole area. So, I have to change anyway. I will try the biospot and maybe just use the frontline as well (as long as my vet says it is ok.)
