Anyone taking Lyrica and/or Cymbalta?

Hi all,

I've been on Cymbalta (prescribed by my LLMD) for about a year. My thyroid doc recently increased the dosage to the max (60 mg/day) and added Lyrica (150mg/day then gradually up to 300mg/day). I would like to hear your stories if you've had sucess (or not) with either of these drugs. I'm a little afraid of they Lyrica's side effects, but my pain has increased lately so i have to try something.

If your pain is nerve-related you might try Neurontin. It has worked wonders for me, and I was afraid of the Cymbalta side effects

Cymbalta did nothing for me. Lyrica worked well for what I call "skin pain". It worked well for a long time, but then I was overcome with severe depression. I had to stop the Lyrica because it was causing the depression. It's like being on a merry-go-round.

I cannot take either:( Cymbalta made me really super nauseas and gave me headaches (and didn't help with the pain). Neurontin did nothing for me except cause bad side effects as well.

Lyrica kicked butt for pain, but after a couple of weeks I started hallucinating out of nowhere. It was super scary!

Just track your side effects and if something bothers you let your dr know right away. Hopefully, this combo helps you!

I couldn't tolerate Lyrica or Cymbalta.  I have been on Cymbalta for 6 months. Once I got over the balance and dizzines I got from early stages of taking Cymbalta I am fine.

I have Lyme and have been on Cymbalta 60ml for a couple of years now. Does anyone know if Cymbalta suppresses your immune system or produces a chemical reaction with the spirochetes when they die off... The Cymbalta masks a good amount of my pain, but I'm lucky to have a bowel every three days. Which is not good either.

Hi Lymebitthecoconu, welcome to our board! I take Cymbalta and it does not suppress the immune system. My LLMD knows I take it. Do you want to start a new thread with your issues as this thread is from 2009?

Are you currently treating for Lyme? You need to take something to make yourself have a bowel movement more often so you can properly detox. Do you have a LLMD to talk to?

Have you read the "New to Lyme?..Start Here!" thread - at the top of the page? It's full of good information...symptom lists, info on probiotics, detoxing suggetions...etc.

I, too am wondering if you are seeing a LLMD?

And, as Sarah said - you need to have regular bowel movements.

Hi, I take Lyrica too. 150 mg 2 times a day is the prescribed dose for me.
It helps real good for nerve pain.
When I started with Doxycycline in July my pain was getting better, so I could actually decrease Lyrica to 100 mg 2 times a day now.
I got no side effects, except a little bit more blurry vision when I´m tired.

Cymbalta gave me my life back but I'm also on neurontin for the peripheral neipuropathy, I think I would be truly bonkers without it with the strange burning itching my body goes thru.
