MRSA

 I have MRSA. Of all places over my sternum. So just came from PCP,opened up and stuffed with gauze drains. And yes it hurts. Is there no end to symptoms and disorders? Is it possible that Lyme destroyed my immune system, allowing all these infections to move in? Feeling that I must have been a very very bad person in my past life so now is payback. I know that I should be 'cheerful' for the post but dont feel that way. I did get antibiotics-dicyclomine.

Has anyone had MRSA? or even heard about it? I am frightened. Anyone?

Did your doctor say anything about putting you on IVmeds for treatment of MRSA

So far the people I know or know of have been treated aggressively with IV abx.

When I was doing IV Rocephine and had to go weekly to the nurse to have her change
my bandage and get more meds and supplies, there was at least three people I saw getting
treated with IV's for MRSA..

Just curious if the doc said anything to you about treating this way??

I would ask the doctor if he would put me on IV meds for MRSA...

Rocephine is also used in the IV/PICC for MRSA.
I'm sorry for how this will sound but most doctors will treat you more
quickly and agressively for MRSA then Lyme.
And insurance will pay longer for this infection.

Sounds terrible but thats how the system works right now for us lymies.

So on that note you will treat two bacterias with one Abx.

I see pcp tomorrow. I will ask about IV antibiotics. What about probiotics? Do I take them along with the antibiotics , or after? What do they mean by pulsing therapy?

Yes, Lyme disables the immune system pretty well and thus makes one more susceptible to other opportunistic infections.

No, I live at the opposite corner of the country, in the Pacific NW.


Do you see a Naturopath?

Yes. The LLMD's here are way too expensive and they refuse to treat me anyway. My Naturopath diagnosed my Lyme, and he is on my insurance. He is very good at what he does, even though he isn't officially "Lyme Literate" - but he seems to have a 6th sense when it comes to my issues, so I'm sticking with his treatment plan for me (well, haven't started treating the Lyme yet, but we're getting there slowly...).

I believe MRSA can be cured with herbs/essential oils...the compounds in the herbs/oils are too complex for the MRSA bacteria to adapt to... Discuss this with a Naturopathic physician...

MRSA is Methysillin-Resistant Staph. Aureaus. This means the bacteria is resistant to common antibiotics, so it takes extra strong antibiotics to gain control over a MRSA infection. But the antibiotics don't really kick the MRSA out for good - a person just becomes an asymptomatic carrier. However, I know of a lady who had MRSA and she used essential oils and has not had one single outbreak since using the oils. She had been on antibiotics for a long time prior to that, without successful resolution to her MRSA rash, so we are sure it was the essential oils that healed the infection.

As for how I found the Naturopath, I got lucky - a friend recommended this Naturopath to me and he just happened to be a participating provider on my insurance. You might find recommendations by going to the American Naturopathic Certification Board's website http://www.ancb.net/directory-home.html to search for a certified Naturopathic practitioner near you.

Yes, Lyme bacteria change into a form that has no cell wall, called L-form. It also is believe to have a cyst form that is very resistant to most antibiotics (Flagyl, an anti-parasitic medication, is used to break up the cyst form). And Lyme is also been shown to form colonies called biofilms in which various forms of the Lyme bacteria co-exist within a "film" that protects them from the antibiotics. Macrolide antibiotics are used to break up biofilms, as are some enzymes (Nattokinase, serrapeptase), Heparin, possibly other things... But the upshot of all this is these different ways in which the Lyme can exist make it much more difficult to get rid of, hence the need for aggressive, long-term, multi-factoral treatment.

I don't know what specifically works against the L-form. But I also know that not all antibiotics work the same way - some work by damaging the cell wall of the bacteria, and some work in other ways. Yes, something must kill the L-form or like you say, nobody would be able to get well again.

sunshine- all packing is out, and healing well! Doxycycline and Benicar keep me up all night ,however. I really dont this difference between a Herx and just plain old side effects...

Yes, those are enzymes (anything ending in "ase" is an enzyme) and as far as I know, they are available without a prescription at a local health food store or online.
