will some bands always show up once you have lyme?

I think the bands will always show positive on Igg since it means a past infection. The funny thing about that is, you can have positive bands on only Igg and still be extremely sick. I'm assuming if the bands are still positive on Igg, but you are feeling better, then the doctor would consider it a past infection. Very confusing!

Most of mine are on Igg too and I feel horrible. That's what I was saying in the above post. I'm not sure why he would keep testing unless he's unsure himself. In my opinion, it's a waste of money to test that many times. He should be treating you on a clinical diagnosis.

i was diagnosed with pd 6 yrs after getting bit by a tick...my lyme band shows 1 positive band...i live in a real small town where lymes a myth...so calling it pd..any suggestions on what i should do? thanks alot

If testing on WB reveals different number of bands or different bands positive each time, whether IgM or IgG, then the infection is still active. A past infection would not trigger the formation of new bands or change which bands are positive.

My WB came back positive on every band but one on IgM and positive on every band IgG. The diagnosis on the test results stated:

1) Indicates past infection

2) Indicates current infection (Reportable Disease)

For whatever it's worth.....

In the context of Lyme, it is my understanding that seroconversion from IgM to IgG begins at about 4-8 weeks after initial infection. However, if the initial infection is not treated adequately, one will likely continue to make IgM antibodies to Lyme (if the immune system is functioning adequately) and therefor conceivably could lead to the generate new IgG antibodies after these IgM antibodies are sero-converted. This, along with the fact that Lyme continuously change their outer surface proteins (which means the immune system has to continually generate new antibodies to the bacteria), is why changing bands, whether IgM or IgG, is an indication of active infection no matter how long it has been present.

Dr. said that labs still show positive even though only 3 bands but not positive enough to have insurance pay for IV. So we are trying zithromax.
