I went to the doctor today after the 'lights' and other symptoms continued. Yes, he said migranes and gave me imitrex. What causes migranes? What would cause bright blinding lights before your eyes? More important, how to avoid it?
AFAIK there's really no way to avoid it. I think different things can cause migraines in different people.
You can get bright flashing lights, all sorts of odd optical affects with migraines....and as I mentioned before, you don't necessarily have to have the headache to have a migraine. If you are having the optical effects (aura) its considered to be a migraine even if there's no pain.
I've seen rainbow lights that chased each other around in circles and slowly expanded to completely fill my field of vision....I was at work and had to wait until it cleared to go home because I was completely blind while it lasted. I've had something that looked exactly like a gigantic ziz-zag crack running diagonally across my vision, with moving lights around the edges.
Believe me, brightly-lit optical effects DO go with migraines. If you can figure out how to prevent migraines, maybe you can prevent these lights from bothering you....does the imitrex prevent migraines?
Best wishes,
