Oh no! Last week I went to the tropics and got bit by a mosquito with dengue fever. With all the stuff my body is going though this just is bad! I spent yesterday in the ER. I had to tell them about having lyme and they want me to see a infectious disease specialist. Doc said "There are some people out there that are misdiagnosing Lyme." I really do not need to prove I have lyme to an ER doc. When I am having so many issues and need help in other areas. Why do doctors always treat you like you are making a little issues into a big issue. I am concerned because I have not urinated in 24 hrs. Even after they put in a liter of fluid yesterday I have not urinated. I find this concerning but I am not a doctor. This is not good.

Yogamom,

Please let your doctor know that you are not urinating. This could be a very bad Urinary Tract Infection.

Are you getting treated for the Dengue fever then? If you aren`t, you need to be. It can be pretty hard on you, unfortunately. Maybe just try telling the ID doc that his concern is with the Dengue fever, and you have a fully competent doctor treating your other conditions, and he doesn`t need to concern himself with them?

I hope you get out of the hospital soon.

I did tell the ER doc about not urinating. He said my blood work for my kidneys looked fine. My blood work also came back with a low platelet and red and white blood cell count. I have been told 3 different theories on why it is or is not dengue. The reson I belive it is dengue is because several of the staff at the place we stayed were out sick with it. I have also had dengue as a child. It seems like I know more about dengue then these doctors. The problem with dengue is that it can kill you. I am going to call Mexico and try to find out what I can, to make sure that does not happen. Oh I am so disappointed in my doctors right now. I wish I was in Mexico where they know how to treat this.

I am sorry for ranting...

So right now I am at home and have not urinated for over 32 hours. I have been drinking fluids. I am having fevers and head/body aches. Not to mention I spent most of Sunday night having everything leave my body from both ends. I am dizzy and tired. I have started to be able to eat again but only in small bits. I will call Mexico tomorrow.

I am so frustrated!

Did they check you for a UTI? That can make you feel bad and run fever too. I was in the hospital once with it and felt horible. Not saying it's not dengue, but you need to have that checked. A UTI can be serious too and not urinating at all is not good.

I am sorry for your suffering. Please let us know how you're doing and what is being done for you.

Where did you go in the tropics?

Is there a blockage or inflammation stopping the flow of urine? Would a catheter help? No urine flow and no production of urine should be taken seriously by doctors. Have someone advocate for you if you are too sick. Make sure they give you electrolytes in case you are dehydrated and out-of-balance.

No they did not check for a UTI. They did give me a liter of intravenous fluids. I am now measuring how much goes in and out of my body

I am drinking electrolytes and probiotics. I am now eating more. I did urinate a little this morning. Not quite as much as normal Maybe my body is taking care of it. I will be calling my regular doc today she was out of the office.

Hi

I was in Thailand a few years ago, and they have dengue fever, so I know a bit about it (I also had a friend who got it). From what I heard, if they don't have a blood test of some sort for it, it could be hard to differentiate between it and Lyme until it gets really bad. The person I know who had Dengue was exhausted, and said they felt like they had chronic fatigue for a year after they got treated for it. Not trying to bum you out- but if you could possible get some sort of actual test for Dengue, it would be good, since otherwise I could see you getting screwed over, since it sounds kind of similar to Lyme.

i've never done this before, tried to write a "post" but think i screwed it up. If anyone can help, please jump in....my son who's 19 has lyme, all bands tested positive. have appt. with LLMD in a month, he's been on 100 mg dioxy for 7 weeks, had to beg the doctor for more after just 4 weeks. his mental state is terrible, sits in room all day, laughs uncontrollable all the time, he's also taking paxil (1 a day) regular doc thinks he's depressed and its not the lyme making him like this. What you you all think? confused cry sad

They drew blood on Tuesday. The test is only done on mondays so I will have the results on Wednesday. I was going to cancel it but now I think we will just let them do it..

Ok so dengue causes an nasty rash that goes away during the day. This is wonderful and yet terrible at the same time. Wonderful because you need a brake from all the itching. Terrible because you want to show the doctor and it is not there until night time. My doc probably thinks I am making it up. Well the test results come back on Wednesday.

Take some pictures of your rash. You can show your doc, plus, you can save the pics in case you need them in the future.

As far as the blood test they drew blood on Tuesday January 26th. The test is only done on mondays so the test was performed on that blood on February 1st. On February 3rd I received a call from the ER doc saying "it shows that you had dengue as a child, but the test was done to soon to say weather you have it now, you need to do the test again." You have got to be kidding me!!!
The next day I received a call from my doc saying both test were negative. Can you belive it!!!

Today I am finally going to see an infectious disease doctor. The first one refused to see me until my test results came back positive. This one agreed to see me based on my symptoms.

As I sit here I really wonder about how our medical system works. Doctors don't see people when they can stop things before they get bad. They make us wait until we are so sick that we will have to spend a lot of money to get better.

I refuse to play this game any longer!!!! There has got to be a better way. This system makes it so they can do lots of stuff to the us and make lots of money. I am just so mad right now.

I am have stomach pain and am still having the rash. The only treatment I have had is one liter of IV fluid and "Oh and by the way your white cell count is very low and so is you platelet count, this is concerning".

I am not one who sits here and is not proactive. I have friends in the medical field who have been trying to help me get help. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for the average person to get help.

I did take a photo of the rash thank you for the suggestion. The quarter idea was brilliant! I am not crazy.
