Got a call from my LLMD and the Igenx test only showed positive for band 41 IgM... there were 2 more bands that were inconclusive, he said he would discuss more when i came in for my appointment in 2 weeks. so.... is this a good indication of Lyme disease??

Did LLMD tell you the two bands that were IND?

Some are especially lyme specific and even though IND, they're seeing something.

It seems Igenex considers 3 bands (?) + 41 for a positive.

But of course symptoms w/o a positive test can still mean LD.

IGeneX considers 2 bands of 23-25, 31, 34, 39, 41 and 83-93 as positive.

Yes, it's a good indication you have LD, but it's not the only indication. Because LD is a clinical diagnosis it depends heavily on what kind of symptoms you're having. You're LLMD will tell you in two weeks if he thinks you have LD and will treat you accordingly. Keep us posted.

The tests are kind of tricky. Certain bands are more important than others, and so an IND there could be important. Unfortunately, band 41 is one of the less specific ones. If your two ind bands are both more important ones, my doctor would consider your test positive (not all doctors would though). Even if they aren't- a negative test doesn't rule out lyme.

I had Band 41 ++ and 39 IND on my test (IgM, although I also had 41+ on IgG), which my doctor also called "inconclusive". However, because of my symptoms, he gave me a clinical diagnosis of Lyme. I had a very strong reaction to treatment, and 6 months in am starting to feel a lot better.

I just looked at 83 IGeneX results (166 records. IgG & IgM for each result.) and IGeneX appears to only report INDs on IGeneX ** bands and not on the other bands.

IGeneX believes, based on their research, that only their ** bands are Bb specific. That probably is why they are willing to use only two of their bands for a positive.

Bet the INDs are 39 and 34 or 31.

Quick piece of info I have learned....band 58 is a legal diagnosis for Lyme in Scotland. Apparently Ticks around the world carry different forms of the bacteria and hence test at different band levels. (I learned this as I tested ++ in bands 31, 41 and 58).

 I was recently tested by Igenex, too.

 Band 41 is a marker, it is always present.

 According to my LLMD, Lyme literate doctors usually consider IMDs bands as weak positive.  Most often, they look for band 41 and one other band for a definite diagnosis.  My LLMD looks at the patient's history as well as the results -- and goes ahead and treats lyme even with indeterminate results on two bands or more.

Band 41 is usually the first band to show up. Band 41(bacteria) has a flagella(a tail). Lyme bacteria have flagella's too, so when band 41 and other bands, that are Lyme specific show up, then they know that they are dealing with Lyme disease. It would be good to know what your IND bands were?

thanks for all the input.... He actually started me on abx at my first appointment,  He said he was 99% sure it was lyme just by my history and symptoms. I'm actually feeling better already too. Guess i'll find out more when i see him
