I've been taking doxycycline for 4 weeks, i just read that you are not suppose to take doxy at the same time as taking calcium. That is what i have been doing....Has that affected my treatment?

Some vitamins and minerals interfere with the absorption of Doxycycline. I think Calcium is one of them. The best thing to do is take your calcium at least two hours after you take Doxy.

Hunter ? is this the first abx you been on for treatment? when did you get bit? I'm just curious when the doxcy comes into the picture for people and just what infection they are trying to get to and how long .

about the calcium ..didn't they say no dairy with doxcy? are you taking another abx with it?

yes first abx round for me, not sure when i got bit i spend alot of time in the woods and usually have ticks on me every weekend during tick season (probably picked off 30 or so last year) i almost always get them off before they bite. I guess not this time.

no nobody said to not take it with calcium. They just said to try to take it on an empty stomach,

How much Doxy are u taking?  I have been on 400 for about 15 months.  I get nauseous if I don't take it with something in my stomach.  But it is important not to take any dairy products or calcium supplements 2 hours before or after taking Doxy.  It's a real drag but I've managed to get use to it.  Hope you are feeling better.

I take 400 also, actually almost all of my symptoms are gone already. the only thing i still have is a little numbness on my right thigh and in  my rib area. Not bad, i notice it mostly with temperture sensitivy. Is it possible that it will never go away, even if i get cured?

I see my Dr. next week, it will only be my 2nd time seeing him, so i have lots of questions!

one thing my llmd said about doxy was that its not always the best drug for lyme. If you weigh more than like 150 lbs, then it is not strong enough. He prescribed tetracycline, which is in the same family of antibiotics as doxy but is stronger or is absorbed better (I forget exactly). Both are used for acne so they can be taken long term. He said often times doxy isn't strong enough to kill lyme in a big dog. I just say that because if it starts to not be as effective and you start to feel sick again, it in option in treatment. If it isn't broke then don't fix it, I guess.

Another fun fact: He also said that although lyme is classified as a bacterial, it is more similar to a one celled ameba.

Glad you are doing so well....so quickly. I'm jealous. ;) Hang in there. Sometimes it seems you 'level out' and getting over the hump is quite difficult for some of us. I felt nearly 'normal' about 5-6 months into treatment but then all of a sudden went down hill. It's been up and down since. It can be a long, tough fight but it's VERY good news that you are improving so quickly. You probably got a strain that is more susceptible to antibiotics/treatment. Keep us updated.

thanks.... I'm just hoping it is Lyme and he can cure it... the 3 doctors before that said MS. I will know more on Wednesday
