IGENEX RESULTS - SO CONFUSED!

Just paid $520 for Igenex testing for my IV insurance appeal.  Of course all CDC negative!  So frustrating.  IFA was indeterminate and PCR plasmid and genomic were both negative.  As if not confused enough about why everythign would be negative, I have 3 postiive bands on IGM (34+, 41+ and 83-93+ for positive Igenex but negative CDC) and IGG - 39 IND and 41+++ and 58+.  

Can someone please tell me why in god's name would IGM which means more recent be positive and IGG which shows up later be negative.  I just don't get this to save my life.  (which I am trying to do)

Lyme is continuously changing its outer surface, therefore the body has to continually make new antibodies. This explains IgM antibodies in late-stage Lyme, especially if the positive bands keep changing. Seroconversion to IgG may be delayed or hindered because of immunosuppression caused by the Lyme bacteria (and/or coinfections). Also, the IgM and/or IgG antibodies may all be bound to Lyme proteins, thus undetectable to the tests.

Somebody remind me why ins. co's insist on a positive test when the CDC itself says Lyme is a clinical diagnosis and that test results should not be relied upon for diagnosis??

Yes it does. Thanks so much. So when I was tested in 2006, it had probably converted to IGG bands cause I had symptoms for a year prior and now that I am in treatment for a year, probably changed back to IGM bands as the lyme is awakened and changing form. Is that kinda correct? I have put together an extensive appeal to get IV treatment with the help of a fellow healingwell lymie. If it gets approved, I will be happy to assist those that need help getting approved.

Kind-of. But Lyme bacteria can cause a change in bands whether or not one is being treated for Lyme.

I hope you get approved for IV treatment.

did you do lengthy legal brief type appeal? I'll let you know how I make out and see if I can be of any help. Didyou have any bands on any tests?

Razzle, I think the reason IgM remains positive for many of us is because the bacteria lives in us for such a long time--forming cysts (hiding) and then coming out when it can. So it shows up as recent.

I think it would take someone at an insurance company to get Lyme to understand but then again some people are still to greedy to care!

I gave up on tests a long time ago, they are not reliable, worse than lie detectors. I was "lucky" to have rashes but don't have faith in the tests, Brain scans or some brain tests show is it grey matter? Its something that shouldn't be there but then this brings into question MS. I wonder if some people have a genetic immunity from maybe 100s of years ago to some of these toxins and other people do not/ I grew up on a large poultry farm where we raised eggs there was chicken sh-- all over, and all of us kids with exception of the eldest who left home before dad built the operation are sick. I don't know if u have heard of morgellons but its less poorly understood than lyme, although concensis is it is in some way related to borrelia and the like. Lyme drs wont take these cases too difficult, cdc trying getting nowhere. One of my brothers has it, its like lyme but he has fibers coming out of skin, he has lost vision in his left eye, he breaks my heart. suicide rate is high and i see why but he is managing.

Wow, sure sounds like positive for lyme:

34 outer surface protein B (OspB); specific for Bb
41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia
39 is a major protein of Bb flagellin; specific for Bb
41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia
58 unknown but may be a heat-shock Bb protein
83 specific antigen for the Lyme bacterium, probably a cytoplasmic membrane
93 unknown, probably the same protein in band 83, just migrates differently in some patients

If you have 5 positive IGM bands and 1 positive IGG band, will insurance pay for IV?
