artemisinin and ear pain

Has anyone had ear pressure and pain after starting artemisinin?

I need to work up on my dose but i'm afraid to because of the pain. I am on 400 mg a day right now ( MWF) with one week off a month.

No, but I had ear pressure, pain, and increased ringing on Zithromax. The common thread is that they both treat babesia. It's possible that you are having a herx reaction. I don't recall that babesia causes ear trouble. I thought that was more of a Lyme or bartonella thing, but I could be wrong. I would suggest that you contact your doctor. He/she may have you back off or increase more slowly to see if you continue to experience pain. The problems with Zithromax faded after a while. I've had my hearing checked, and I have not had any hearing loss.

Hey Georgiagirl,

Long time, hope you are making progress. I took Artemisinen for about 18 month's almng with Zith and had a lot of ringing in the ears and my Babesia caused a lot of sweating. I think I have it under control now, my main symtoms are neuropathic pain which is getting better after 7 weeks of rife machine treatment and working out followed by a daily steamroom session to sweat out the toxins. It is working for me, and I think I am making progress with taking the rife plunge. Hope you keep lookiung and finding ways to improve!

I am on my week off of artemisinin and i'm still having ear pain and pressure. I will probably have to call my LLMD to see if she still want's me to continue taking it. I was reading an article that said to take alot of anti-oxidents while on artemisinin to keep from getting ear pressure.
I will try to increase my anti-oxidents and see if the pain improves....

I'm still having the ear pain and pressure. I went to an ENT and she said that my ears looked clear but she could tell there was pressure. I took a decongestant for several days and the pain has just gotten worse. It's horrible....I don't know what to do...

I've had ear pressure/plugging/and recently pain for a long time - not sure if it's Lyme-related or not. I've had about ten sets of ear tubes and they've just been a miracle.

I have babesis ducani. i got ear pain and pressure with artimisinin but also with mepron and zithro and crypto plus. I really think its a babesia symptom/herx

I would avoid artemisinin. In my experience, everytime I took it , I went from thinking straight to a very cloudy mind and being unable to speak right. Some call it a herx , but it is not possible to function like that. If a medicine makes you feel like that for a quarter of the day, I do not see how it will make you better. These are the feelings I get from Artemisinin and related products.

I would be concerned with ear pain or pressure. I would call my LLMD immediately. I pulsed at 3 days on, 2 days off and perhaps your intervals aren't enough to stop it's own induction of its metabolism. Ototoxicity is a huge concern with artemisia IMO.
