Feeling Nervous

It was not painful for me when I got my picc line inserted last year. They performed the procedure at my local hospital using a floroscope to guide the line into the proper position. They used lanicane to numb the area first before inserting the line. Having the line pulled out 30 days later was completly painless and done by a visiting nurse at my home. Good luck with your IV treatment.

I will be getting ceftriaxone.  I'm not sure how it works yet.   I will get the picc first and then a nurse is suppose to show me how to administer med.

hoping I can tolerate the drug.   I did okay with doxcy...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I did get hives almost immediately on my first dose of IV-Roecphin. My doctor gave me an epipen and made me promise not to dose while alone. I took benedryl prior to dosing for the first week and after that I didn't get any more hives as my body adjusted to the medication. I had a good experience with IV-Rocephin and started noticing a significant improvement in my symptoms beginning in the third week. I wish that I had continue beyond the 30 days but at the time my ID doctor would not agree to extend the treatment. My medication was delivered to my home and came in pre-packaged syringes. They easily screwed into the picc line and I would inject the 2 gram dose. I had to flush the picc line with saline and heprine before and after dosing each day. The visiting nurse came to the house once a week to clean and change the dressing on the picc line.

Showering was a bit of a challenge, I wrapped my picc line in seran wrap to create a water tight seal. They sell water tight cuffs that serve the same purpose, but I found the seran wrap worked just fine. My LLMD keeps reminding me that I may need to return to IV-Rocephin at some point.

Getting th picc line put in is a cake walk. see if you can get the one that desn't have to be flushed every day if you are not using it.

I had one that on my days off and weekends I didn't have to flush.

but be really careful don't go outside and start weed wacking like I did. I got mine infected. I got a little too cocky with mine once I was feeling good.
