Wow, your story and symptoms sound a lot like mine. I was 27 when I got sick three years ago - was in the prime of my life with a great job and in my last semester of college in pre-law...was in pretty great shape, too, though I'd had an extensive history of migraines. The pain started in my left side (ribs were sore and extremely tender to touch) and slowly spread to the rest of my body until I ached all the time like I had the flu. I felt like it was impossible to get out of bed in the morning and I started getting to work later and later, until eventually I couldn't sit in the chair any longer... I didn't have eye twitching, but other muscles in my body would (and still do) twitch for days...sometimes it'll be one of my knees, sometimes my outer thigh, or wherever...it will twitch for so long it starts to hurt. My feet are one of my biggest complaints, though it's the soles that hurt to walk on...just a deep and painful ache.
The fact that the Doxycycline made you feel worse is a good sign you have Lyme - the first LLMD I saw said he'd never seen a patient who didn't feel worse once they started a treatment due to the Herxheimer (or Herx) Reaction.
You are so fortunate to have a doctor who is
open to diagnosing and treating you for Lyme! It took me over 30 doctors to get the help I needed...and a LOT of very invasive tests that I knew I didn't need, but put myself through to rule other illnesses out. Like others have said, the tests for Lyme aren't very accurate, so Lyme is often a clinical diagnosis once other diseases are ruled out (M.S., Lupus, etc.). If you're really new to Lyme, you may be interested in the documentary Under Our Skin - it's so informative and will give you a good idea of the issues we all struggle with throughout our recovery process.
I hope your doctor knows enough about
Lyme to get you the treatment you need before it's too late...this is such a scary, nightmare of an illness...
Good luck!
Rachel
