LDN

Has anyone here tried the Low Dose Naltrexone? I am very tempted to try it/ask my Dr. to try me on it. I was wondering what other's experiences were before I go asking for it. I have quite the presentation for my Dr. next week and this was near the top of the list

rawrunner, I have just started LND and I am excited about it. I'm starting w/ a very low dose (1.5 mg) and am to gradually work up to 4.5 mg. This drug is one of the safest, has very few side effects and is relatively cheap.

But you have to find a good compouding pharmacy becasue it is not currently packaged in such low doses.

some people here have said it has not helped them at all. There are several possible reasons. First, the pharmacy has got to be good -- evidently not all compound pharmacies produce a quality capsule. Also, it must NOT be time released. The pharmacy should already be aware of that.

I have been on it less than a week and I feel some improvement. Could be the LDN in combination of me throwing myself on the floor, sobbing and praying my heart out for help on the same day I started it....

I am esp interested in this drug because of the cancer fighting possibilities, as well as MS, chronic fatigue, fibro, etc. Since my Lyme seems to be neuro, and because I have chronic EBV, I have feared progressing to MS or CFS.

+Lyme, I'm happy to hear it's helping you. I think I might give it another try since it's been almost 4 years since I was on it and at the time I was not yet diagnosed or being treated for LD. I did get it from a good compounding pharmacy my doc suggested but it might be worth it to try another one this time. I know how you feel and am also desperate for something to work. I do know that if you are taking opiates, you need to stop in order to do naltrexone...but I am not so I should be ok. Unfortunately, I am hyper-sensitive to narcotics and can't take anything, and due to an episode of renal failure this summer(unrelated to Lyme) I can't take NSAIDS so I am pretty much having to just *deal* with pain. As far as maltrexone and naltrexone being similar....idk. I do know you could not take oxy with naltrexone.

I tried this. My instructions are to take it at bedtime. I assumed that would mean on an empty stomach. But it gave me a terrible stomach ache. Do you take it with food? Does the time of day matter? (I think my doctor was trying to help me with sleep problems, thus the p.m. instruction.)

Yeah, bucci -- that was my question. Since it blocks opiates, then what would they be able to give me if in an extreme circumstance, I needed the pain relief of a narcotic? I'm going to check w/ my Dr about this. I guess it will depend on how long before it's out of our system.

The higher dose is also good for alcoholism -- they have found that it blocks the intoxicating feelings. And in some rare cases, only women, for some reason, it has helped them stop smoking.
