Well, I've had it, untreated, for about 3 1/2 yrs now.  I realize many Drs believe you must treat the co-infections first, before treating Lyme. Mine didn't want to start Babs treatment until we had tried more Abx and until I was not feeling so bad (while herxing), since, as he said, Babesia treatment would make me feel worse and he did not want to 'add insult to injury'. 

He also said that he has had patients w/ babs that responded to abx and he wanted to try that first. 

At my request, he is now ready to start treating the Babesia and asked me to find out if my insurance would cover Mepron or Malarone.  It doesn't -- not even the generic for Mepron.

I am going to write to my insurance company and ask them exactly how one should treat babesia.

Meantime, I am interested in any natural cures.  I was looking at Dr. J S's site for Artemisinin.  Do you all feel that this is safe and effective?  What doses are some of you on?

Do any of you believe babs can be cured by abx?  OR that I can eradicate it myself if my LDN proves to be effective for me and my immune system is boosted?

I take Artemisinin 3 pills twice a day for three days, then four days off. I take this along with azithromycin and mepron. I also take A-Bab, a Byron White herbal tincture. Definitely, the A-bab makes me herx; I have to keep reducing the dose since the idea with this is to find the highest dosage at which there are no herx symptoms.

I have a local Lyme friend who, after eighteen months of abx, is - so far - babesia free. She's been "cured" of babesia for nearly a year now, and has moved on to treating Lyme.

I take Artemisinin one pill twice a day for three weeks and then one week off. I am currently taking Rifampin as well. When I was being treated for Babesia the last time, Malarone and Mepron were very good. Do challenge your insurance company -- those abx are being used a lot for treating tick borne illnesses.

I take 4 caps of Allergy Research Artesiminin daily, at the advice of my Lyme-wise MD. It seems to be working well. I asked her if I should "upgrade" to the drugs used to combat babesia, and she advised against it, saying she has seen pretty bad side effects from them, and has gotten just as good results with artesiminin....but of course we are all different, perhaps the medicines are better for some people.

Was the artesiminin regimen what your doctor recommended? Just wondering if I should increase my dose. And the A-Bab? I of course will look it up, but what is it for, also the babesia? What does it add above the artesiminin? I am sooo motivated to kick the babesia in the butt as hard as I can. I have felt better these last days and feel strong enough to take on more...

I'm on A-bab as well. It's a byron white formula for babesia. My naturopath has me on a dozen things (it seems) to flush out my system every day which reduces the herxing a lot. I'm very happy with it! The treatment is almost enjoyable!

I THINK one of you said that you knew someone whose BAbs was treated w/ abx. Is that correct?

I THINK my LLMD said that in rare cases, the babs has responded to abx, but everything else I've read says otherwise...

+Lyme: I don't know much ab. Babs, but there was a link here to a conference about Lyme and coinf and that included a lot of info about babs. and treatement for it. If you are interested, I will look it up and send you a link. Someone from this forum went to this conference, but it is also posted on line, so you can see (not read) the whole conference on line.

+Lyme: Here is the thread to the info about the conference.  needshelp ( a member on this forum went to it.). Trav is the one that found the info.  Let me see if I can find a link to the actual conference, but here is the thread about it:

I will post again if I can find it, if not, I'd just have to ask Trav about it.  It is very long, I watched the first 3 parts and each part is about 1.5 hours.  I have to find it for myself as well, bec I intend to watch the rest of it.  I think needshelp posted the link, I thought it was in the thread above but I can't see it.

you can watch the webminar here. If I watched the first 3 and I found it in there, it means that at least one of the firsst 3 has info about Babs, but I think there is more than one. I feel for you, it sounds worse than Lyme from what these people are saying!

The conference lasted 2 days and I think you'll find more info if you browse through. The first part is for the most part an intro, so I would not bother with it if I were you, but parts 2 and 3 I found worth watching. I'm hoping to watch the rest soon. You can forward if someone is talking about something that you don't care about.

+LYME: Dr. Peter Krause is your guy, he has glasses and a mustache, so look for him.  You will have to scroll down and then again scroll down to find all of the parts.  Hope this helps!  If you can't figure out how to work it, pls post another topic, I'd probably forget about this by tomorow!

Can you tell me a bit about what you are using to flush your system and reduce herxes? I have some methods, but some (like driving to a chiropractor's to use an infrared sauna) don't do well if I am really bad off and can't drive....

You are very welcome, +Lyme! I will watch the rest this weekend and next week. I will be searching for Bartonella info. BTW, I do not agree with what some of the presenters talked about, but I will be watching all of it bec. I am curious to find out as to why their oppinion is so different.

For those on Artemisinin, what is the DOSAGE that you take?

yeah, I'm ready to kick some Babs 'A' -- it really sucks, doesn't it??

I don't think I've found here if anyone has an opinion on the LDN. It's OK if you don't know anything or much about it, but given the premiss that it boosts your immune system (when you have an autoimmune disorder or disease).

Just theories: would you think this might possibly work? I have read that many Babs cases simply resolve.

seeking, how much A-bab do you take? Yes, the artemisinin dosage (3 pills 2x/day for 3 days, the 4 days off) is what the LLMD prescribed for me. It's more than the pill bottle label recommends, but I've been doing this for a year and seem to be okay with it. I got off the A-bab b/c my symptoms were so awful, but will start it again, more slowly this time, next week. Had a conf. call w/the LLMD and he said A-bab treats lots of things besides just babesia, so maybe my herx wasn't all driven by babesia die-off. I'd hate to think after a year of abx that I still had enough babesia in me to cause that many symptoms. But now, five days after stopping A-bab, I'm feeling pretty good again.
What does your naturopath have you taking to reduce herxes?

+Lyme, I haven't seen that. Do you have the source for babesia resolving on its own? That's encouraging. Everyone I know who has it or had it went through quite a battle to get rid of it (or are still fighting it). I'd love to read something positive about it.

I spend a LOT of time each day doing things to flush out my system to reduce toxins. I actually just wrote up a whole list and I would repost it here, but it is REALLY long. it is a few topics down on the main page for lyme disease called "How do you do it? And... detox?". I've been having a lot of success with the byron white formulas. I can't say it has been an easy ride, but it has been just tolerable enough to push through. this stuff is amazing and like I said before, I'm very happy with it. I'm so thankful that I have the doctor I have. She and I are very optimistic, even though I've have lyme & co for at least 10 years.

The "recommended" dosage on the bottle says 2 drops a week. On the website it says 15 drops a day, with 20+ for a "challenge". My naturopath wants me to get up to 50 drops a day. From what I understand, the recommended dosage is different for everyone based on what they can tolerate.

you can google "byron white formula" and the info will come up about what is in it in PDFs. Its got a collection of all the "super" herbs, like cats claw and neem in it. The only super herb that I know of that it doesn't seem to have is venus fly trap. When I finish with the byron white formulas (there are 3 different ones, A-BAB, A-BART, and a general one for all the rest of the coinfections), I plan on going on a venus fly trap tincture for a while. My naturopath had me on the VFT for a while before I started A-BAB so that I could work up to the A-BAB (because it is so strong/effective). She had a few different things she recommended people take to flush out the first round of toxins and buggies before starting on byron white formulas to make the process easier. I dont remember the others though, sorry. hope that helps!

My doc put me on Enula (Nutramedix) and Bab-2 (Healthy Directions) at 30 drops twice a day along with Mepron.

Willowrose, I don't remember, but it was probably the CDC that said some babs cases resolve. I believe that it's them who recommend no treatment if you don't have symtoms even if you test positive for Babs. Seems pretty stupid.

My daughter has had Lyme, Babesia & Bartonella for 6 years (12yrs old - 18yrs old).  She has used Doxycycline, Artemisinin [Sweet Wormwood], Rifampin, Mepron, Azithromycin, A-L, A-Bart and A-Bab that I can remember.  Her problem has been not taking each consistently as the doctors have recommended.  It's important to have Mepron for at least 4 months, because that is how long your blood recycles itself.  If there is one parasite left, it will reproduce.  Detoxing products are also important.  Sunrider is a company that has some good detox teas.  We've also tried the Rife Machine.  You want to buy a more expensive one, because the cheaper ones she was feeling electric shocks.  I've bought her Dr. Floras Parasite Cleanse, but she hasn't wanted to take that yet.  She's now adding Earthworm Extract to her regime, so we'll see how that goes; it's supposed to help Lyme.

For all those interested in byron white formulas, I've also been using them for a little over a year, and am very grateful to have found this method of treatment. From my experience with A-Bab, you start with 5 drops or so twice a day (if that feels like too much, then you lower it) and continue that until you don't feel a reaction to what you are taking. Then you up the dosage. I continued in this pattern until I got to 35 drops and am now transitioning to adding A-L to the routine. I've also been taking supplements based on the herxeimer reactions I've been having to ease it up a bit, as well as drinking lots of dandelion tea. The biggest difference I noticed was after I cut out wheat, sugar and dairy from my diet. I can think more clearly and have more energy. I hope this helps folks!

I have had lyme, babesia and ehrlichia and have been taking many tinctures and pills from the naturopath for a few months. Am about to get a blood test to see where I am at.

I need some help clarifying some comments from above what is A-L? And what is ABX?
Trying to figure this all out, not sure which direction to go in.

As CD suggested, if you haven't ​yet​, it would be helpful for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of important information, symptom lists, helpful links and pdf's, how to detox when one has these infections, information on probiotics and much more.

A-L that they are referring to above is a Byron White formula for treating Lyme disease and is only available through practitioners.

Abx is short for antibiotics.

Keep asking questions!!! It's a very steep learning curve with Lyme and we are here to help all we can!
