any experience from Hydroxycloroquine and Azithromycin for lyme?

Hi all,
I came back yesterday from my LLMD for the first visit, he things I have Lyme and he draw blood for all kind of tests and I will be getting the result in 1 month or so...
Meanwhile he put me on Hydroxycloroquine and Azithromycin.
I have been searching everywhere I can see many people taking this treatment... so please if you have experience with this let me know.

Hi Lyanna,

I'm on both of those medications, as are many other people on this site. Hydroxycloroquine is also called plaquenil, and I take it for my lupus (SLE) and it also helps fight my Babesiosis (a Lyme co-infection). I've been on Azithromycin for at least 9 months now; I also take Suprax, Alinia, and Malarone. Other antibiotics I've taken for Lyme or for co-infections include: doxycycline, Mepron, IV Rocephin, Omnicef.

I know that after I started taking the azithromycin I started to have strong Babesiosis symptoms at times, which is probably a sign (a "herx") that the medication is working.

Congratulations on seeing a LLMD!!! I don't know anything about the abx combo that you are taking, as I am using a different type of treatment, but I wanted to wish you all the best with your new treatment!!

You should start detoxing (instructions are given in the "New to Lyme?" thread) right away, as the abx will kill off bacteria & that will overload your system with the die-off, which is what causes a Herxheimer Reaction. These 'herxes' can be pretty tough to get through for some, and there no need to struggle through when it's so easy to detox.

I have been on plaquenil since January with no ill effects. It is recommended that you get your vision check regularly though. I was on this and zithromax for 6 months. I have since changed antibiotics but still take the plaquenil. I report no problems with either medication.

Be sure to have your vision checked by an eye doc who is familiar with neuro type eye symptoms at least once, then you can do follow-up with a regular eye doc who is familiar with plaquenil side effects.
