Butt crack sore

I know this sounds funny but it isn't. I have had a sore in my butt (right at the top of your butt crack) crack for several months now. And no it is not a fissure. It bleeds if it you scratch it but the itching is bad. I have had my doctor give me dicflen twice thinking it was yeast but it has not stopped abit. Then he gave me enough for a week andstill no better.

Try the soaking as Razzle suggests and then rub a little olive oil into it. See if that makes a difference.

I'm so sorry you're having such a difficult time.....and believe me, I know it's not funny! I'm shooting in the dark here, but let me tell you a story about something that happened to my husband, and see if anything sounds familiar at all:

I was dx with celiac disease in 2008, around Thanksgiving. I tried very hard to go gluten free by myself, but still allow gluten-y foods in the house (regular wheat bread and pasta, etc) for my husband and kids, but it didn't work. I kept getting accidentally "glutened" all the time by the tiniest crumbs, which could make me sick for days. So eventually our entire family had to go gluten free; the house became a gluten-free zone.

Being gluten free isn't as bad as it sounds, since almost anything from bread to pizza to muffins to pasta can be made gluten free, and still taste pretty good. My husband was a good sport for a few weeks, and remained completely gluten free until the Superbowl, when he bought some beer. Beer is made from barley, of course, so has gluten in it.

Within a few days of drinking the beer, my husband broke out in the nastiest blisters that broke and turned into sores in exactly the same place you're describing...right at the base of his spine/top of his butt crack. One sore expanded to the size of a quarter, it looked like a crater on the moon. The itching was driving him crazy! It turned out to be a rare form of celiac disease that manifests itself through the skin, called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH for short). He also ended up with a horrible skin condition on his hands, knees, elbows, etc. which involved a mixture of DH and psoriasis.

We were totally surprised....we had absolutely NO idea that he too had celiac disease, since he had never had any symptoms!!

Of course, he immediately went back to being gluten free and took some medication as well, but it took a LONG time to heal (months).

The DH sores turned a dark dark purple as they healed, and the purple "scars" stayed there forever. That's a hallmark of DH, blisters that break and turn purple as they heal, with dark purple blotches that last a long time.

Anyway, that's what I was reminded of as I read your post....sore at the top of the butt crack that itches like crazy and is NOT yeast. Have you ever been on a gluten free diet? Do you know if you are gluten intolerant or not?

Hang in there! I know how frustrating it is to be in diagnostic limbo!

It can sure get interesting around here as we try to help each other - and it is all about sharing our love, as you said!!

For me, I did & will get boils on different areas of my body - even had 2 on my face at one time (embarrassing) - every time I push my body to it's "last straw". I'm not real sure just what would happen if I didn't stop everything & confine myself to the bed. I can just 'feel' like I've pushed my body & mind to the very edge, and if I do much of anything besides eat, sleep & stay in bed, that I will wind up in the hospital scary thought here where I live w/ having LD!!.

When I do get a boil/abcess or whatever- I like to clean the area very well & use a drawing salve on it.

Since your doc thought it might be yeast, it made me think of another med you could try.  Try using the antifungal cream called Lamisil.  It used to be a prescription but can now be purchased "over the counter"  in drug stores and even some grocery stores etc.  The cream comes in a tube and you can just squeeze a little out and dab it on the sore spot a couple times a day or so.  Read the suggestions on the box.  Fungus can be hard to get rid of so treat the spot for 10 days or more to really get rid of it.

Ok so thank you all for this post. My hubby had a "dark spot" in his butt cheeks. I didn't want to ask him about it because how weird is that? But now it is rashy and bleeding. I think it's a wheat issue. But, no pun intended, could it be a hemmoroid or something worse?

Glad I found this site. Typed "sore in my butt that won't heal" into Google. Guess I'm not the only one. Mine began as a "crusty patch" lower inside butt, that I discovered while showering. I didn't pay much attention until it became an open sore. As I am not married, it is hard to bend over far enough to see it to know what it looks like (smile) and my experiences with doctors has been less that inspiring.
The above advice will be followed. Anyone else had similar? Thanks for this site!!! Any further advice?

OK! I'm back with more information:

In my dad's case it was Lichen Sclerosus. His dermatologist (the best I've ever met) told him it's often misdiagnosed as a simple abscess. It starts with an itchy area, but can get infected and develop into sores. He had it on the exact same place as you have it, but it wouldn't go away with abx and got bad, so they had to clean it out surgically, but it healed very nice and rather quick.
She told him it often flares up when immunity is low, or with high emotional stress. Gotten it once, it can come back easily in the 'right' circumstances. She told him that it forms at the end of a damaged nerve.

In recent years there has been renewed interest in a possible link with a group of micro-organisms called Borrelia, with antibodies to this bacteria found in more than a quarter of cases.

Once the sore is cured, and you experience an itchy feeling, she adviced to dry the area with a hair dryer after showering or bathing, and apply a cream to keep the skin 'elastic' so it won't itch or crack (and afterwards get infected).
