I just found out that I am pregnant. I am really excited, but already am getting the brick wall from the OBGYN. The high risk pregnancy docotr who she consults with, said I dont need to be on amoxcicilin. So she doesnt want to give me it. -- I am going to a GP tomorrow and telling them I have a sinus infection so I can get a script. Self medication, again.-- Do I need to look for a new OBGYN??? I am noy convinced that I am going to find a doctor who believes I have lyme and will prescribe me the abx during my pregnancy. -- I am scared becase I am pregnant NOW. Looking for a new doctor and finding one that will treat me and believe me takes time.--- Is it ok to keep my OBGYN and treat myself with abx if she wont??? VERY VERY confused. Please tell me what yoou think.

I don't condone self treating but you ARE pregnant and I think it is a good idea to take the antibiotics protect your baby. I don't think OBGYN's know much about Lyme. If they do, it's very rare. You don't have a LLMD?

I dont have an LLMD at this time. Had a really hard time finding one, so finding an OBGYN who understands will be even more difficult, I think.-- I just havee a general feel of dread.-- I am tired of trying to convince doctors, especially withthis situation.

Congratulations! I know the feeling of being so happy and so scared. My OBGYN would not perscribe my antibiotics at first but I have a very good GP that would and an LLMD that was happy to talk to my Drs. I think that is the key. By the end of my pregnancey she understood the risks. It helped when the CDC in my last trimester finally put on there web sight that yes you can pass Lyme to a fetus. She was then very helpful she gave me IV antibiotics after the birth and tested the baby for Lyme. She tested negative. So far we have a happy 2 1/2 year old who shows no symptoms.

 I would look for a helpful OBGYN and try to find a LLMD right away. Which I know can be so hard to find and afford. Try not to let this all stress you out so much thats not good for you or the baby. I had a great pregnancey and went off antibiotics when she was a few months old after breastfeeding. I had felt great for 2 years I thought I was all better. Bam as soon as I stopped I was the sickest I have ever been.  My Lyme acts just like MS I lost the use of my legs for 6 months and still havent fully recovered. So be easy on yourself.

I got pregnant in the middle of my treatment. I was already on Biaxin so I switched to amoxicillin. My Lyme doc wouldn't deal with a pregnant patient (long story) so I switched to an Infectious Disease doc. He was the one that prescribed the antibiotics during the pregnancy and afterwards. The ObGyn went along with whatever the ID doc recommended.

My son will be 18 in a few months and has never showed the slightest sign of Lyme.

thanks for all the information and ncouragement. I am going to contact my old LLMD and just put my cards on the table. i am hoping she will treat me with the amoxcicilin. I know I wont find anyone else to, it just the truth.--- thank you so much. My heart is a little more eased.

Congratulations on the pregnancy, Stutterbug!!! I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like knowing you have LD & finding out your pregnant. I was un-dxed years ago when I got pregnant.
Please do keep us all updated - as much as you are able to- on how you & baby are doing!! Also please keep us updated on how your search for answers right now goes!

YEAH!! I just got back from my old LLMD and she is going to treat me!!! I feel so relieve d and happy. I dont have to prove anything to anyone!! I feel validated.-----SO thanks to everyone who gave me information and encouragement. I can now focus on being excited about this pregnancy!!!!

I am waiting to see if I am pregnant, maybe test tomorrow. It wasnt on purpose but these things happen. Thanks for all the info.

Did you ladies take probiotics during your pregnancy along with the ABX??? and did you give your baby probiotics during breast feeding??

Congratulations! That's is great news. When I found out I was pregant I too was excited and very scared. My ob gyn didn't have a clue about lyme, but he was very through as an ob gyn. My lyme dr gave me amoxicillin throughout and my ob had no problem with that. So, he didn't treat me or my lyme at all but I continued with my lyme dr. The good news is that my daughter is now 2 1/2 and perfectly healthy and so smart. I was extremely sick with my pregnancy so taking anything (even water) most days was not even an option. I didn't continue on after and did breatfeed for 3 months. I am not sure even how much amox got into my system because my morning sickness was so extreme that I couldn't eat or keep anything down for the entire pregnancy.

I would try to find a dr that can get you the amoxicillin. If you want to breatfeed after they will recommend staying on it then as well so you will need a good year's worth. You don't necessarily need another ob but one that will work in conjuction with another dr. I also had my daughter tested at birth and again at 6 months and 1 year just to be certain. My lyme dr ordered the test at birth and her pedi ordered the rest as I told him about my chronic lyme.

Good luck. I am actually trying again after a miscarriage this summer for another. I hope to have some good news in the coming weeks as well. It is well worth all of it. Nothing better!

Ahhhhh, it must be because of the super-duper memory that LD & company has blessed me with!! eyes

Only here, with my "Lymie" family am I not ridiculed for such things!!
