Anyone know much about HGE, HME ?

I previously tested positive for HME but am now testing positive for HGE despite being on doxy for a while (which is the recommended treatment).  Wondering if it is common to have both or is it possible that the test cross-reactive or something?  I assumed when the dr. called and said erlichiosis test came back high that she meant HME which I knew I had.  But no, the test says HGE (or anaplasmosis) IGG is 1:512.  Can't figure this stuff out for anything.

There are Doxy-resistant strains of HGE, so you may need treatment with a different abx than Doxy.

Human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE) occurs when the bacteria infect granulocytes, specific cells involved in immune responses and allergies. Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME) occurs when a different Ehrlichia species infects macrophages, another type of immune cell.

Hey Jo, can you translate that some more for me.
I know I have erechilosis but have to look up which one. Is that an igenex test?
Is the treatment same for both.
Is it doxy?

Thanks! Does anyone here have BOTH? I'm wondering if they cross-reactive which means you really only have one but test positive for both at different times. I find it hard to believe one little tiny bug can give me 4 different co-infections but I guess it happens.

That one little bug can actually infect you with more like 6 (or more) different tick infections;
Lyme Disease
Rocky Mountain Spotted (& Spotless) Fever
Masters' (aka STARI)
Babesia
Bartonella
Ehrilichia

Not to mention the viruses, and other infections that may develop or be passed on by that lovely little feller!!

This is why it is soooo very important that we all do what we can to spread awareness of TBI's (tick-borne infections). Most of the docs out there don't have a clue about what they are looking at -

- unless they have a blood test to tell them for sure. And we all know that those blood tests are about as reliable as a broken clock! At least the clock is right twice a day and it doesn't rob people of their lives!!

You can definitely have both! HGE is caused by Anaplasma phagocytohphila, and HME is caused by Ehrlichia chafeensis, two different bugs.

IGeneX coinfection testing does test for both types of Ehrlichiosis.

The treatment for both is the same: doxycycline.

How can they tell difference in Lyme Disease and Masters Disease.

It is my understanding that Lyme and Master's are the same disease, just caused by different strains of Bb (the lyme spirochete). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong in this...

Masters disease and Lyme disease are basically the same, just caused by different type of Borrelia. Masters disease is caused by Borrelia lonestari. They're still Borrelia spirochetes.

I don't know if many labs are capable of testing for Borrelia lonestari or if the antibodies produced would be different. I assume so, because apparently people with Masters disease don't test positive to Lyme disease.

JoAnn & Razzle, you got your information right!!!

I not only am graced with Masters', I was diagnosed & treated for one year by the great LLMD & Researcher who this is named after!!!

Anyone searching for more answers about Masters' Disease? use "Google Scholar" and enter the search terms (with quotes!!) "Masters' Disease" and you will see many research papers with Dr. Ed (or Edwin or EJ) Masters name attached.
