no sleep some nights

  about once a month I have a night where I am so wired I can't sleep. Does this happen to anyone else. All Of my symptoms become very intense, especially my itchy skin! If this happens to any of you, what do you do?

Hi, alot of things can cause sleeplessness and you didn't say if you are eating, drinking or taking meds that may cause it? I have suffered with serious sleep issues and so do several of my family members. I do take a sleeping pill but it also doesn't keep me asleep but helps compared to nothing. I can offer some ideas but need to know more so please let me know what you think may be contributing to sleeplessness?

I haven't had the opportunity to welcome you yet, as my hubby & I have been busy passing the flu back & forth!!
So welcome to our forum!!! I am so glad you found us, although I am sorry that you have a need to be here! Please be sure to read through the thread at the

top of the forum titled, "New to Lyme?...Start Here!", as it is packed full of some really important info that the members here have put together as well as some very helpful links!!!

Non-restorative sleep & insomnia are both a big issue for me, so I take meds to make me sleep deeper & longer - so I'm not sure I will be of much help.

Have you tried taking an antihistamine or two when this happens? Sometimes that will not only help with the itchies and with trying to get to sleep.

The other things that comes to mind is are you detoxing? As toxins build up in your body, more & more symptoms will be apparent.

Just a couple of thoughts...

Well....... I have babesia and Lyme.....I am being treated for both. I am also taking an Anti depressant, Xanax during the day, melatonin to sleep and also 1 mg Ativan and still have trouble. I am on a yeast free diet because I am taking Bactrim ds. I am also taking Mepron and lots of supplements to support my immune system. I only have 1 cup of coffee in the morning and have stopped drinking many moons ago! Are your family memebers also suffering from Lyme, if so I am sorry cause it's not for Sissies!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Also for your help. I will try the antihistamines. I am doing the Detox baths.....I just got a new bathub! It has champagne bubble message so i am really using it! I have also been soaking my feet in the afternoons.Thanks again traveler!

I sooooooooo agree with you about this not being for Sissies!!! I was thinking that exact same thing while trying to stand long enough to fix chicken noodle soup last night!!!

Unfortunately, yes - I do have other family members that have this insidious disease.

How is your sleep hygiene? If you are not sure what all is included when someone says sleep hygiene, here's a pretty good link to use to learn more:

Unfortunately, I believe that there are quite a few of us here that have to take something to help us sleep. For me, all it takes is taking my anti-depressant (Trazodone) at night along with melatonin and magnesium.

    I am sorry you have other family members with Lyme disease. I think my Hubby has it too. Dr. says it can be sexually transmitted. I don't remember a tick bite. I am sure he has had many. Boy Scouts, Army etc. I do spend lots of time outside gardening.I had Igenex testing......he went to regular Dr. BOO! He'll come around. The link you sent was awesome.I do most of the things on there. Last night, there was alot of stimulation later than what I am used to. My daughter stopped by for dinner tongue ! Love her! She has been so patient with me. Thanks again for all the info. I am taking Geodon at night, and am usually asleep by 9 pm.

Just because this lovely affliction is named tick-borne infections doesn't stop other insects that bite (fleas, biting flies, deer flies, mosquitoes) from infecting people as well. Having a tick attach is not necessary. smhair

I am so sorry to hear that hubby has this as well!!

Like you, whenever my daughter comes over, I always stay up too late talking & giggling!!! It' a great thing to have your children over for a visit though!!!
