Why test Lyme then?

shakehead    Think about this one!    If Lyme is such a disease of controversay, why in the world are Docs even testing it especially if many are unknowledgeable of it?

My question is why test if Lyme is supposed to be a clinical diagnosis? I've got more Lyme symptoms then lupus and RA but my doctor is convinced I have one of them instead of Lyme. Just really really discouraged and disgusted right now. I know I need a LLMD and am looking but with the storm some I called were closed. One said it would be April until I could be seen. Just really tired.

Yes, it's frustrating. Although I'm positive, glad they found what it was. I am sure I've had it for awhile.

The important part is to stay focused and research, research, research while awaiting your appointment. you can find out so much and be armed with so much information when you finally get in to an LLMD. You must be your own best advocate with this disease. It's not like other diseases. You have to fight to get diagnosed if you truly believe you have it.

I have no faith in testing, possibly culturing but not positive on that either!

I would not spend a dime on a lyme test.
Maybe the culture method has a good or better success rate?
i remember they grew some tissue in a petri dish a long time ago

I don't know if they still do it or not.

My doc said (but this was 4 years ago) its a clinical diagnosis.

jeannie, have u ever taken an antibiotic for a month or so to see if this does anything for you? kind of a self test, I am very surprised your doc does not try that for u, but u could do it yourself

My physician assistant says i have fibro/chronic fatigue. i had all my lyme records sent IF she'd look at them she might be a little more helpful.

I've thought about it, believe me I've thought about it. My doctor wants to "rule out" everything else before he considers it to be lyme, even though I have tons of symptoms. I currently am on Bactrim (10 day) for an ear infection. I'm hoping it does something in that 10 days and I can show him. But then again he'll probably say it was a bad ear infection, or something else making me feel like this.

I remember years back when I worked in a lab, we testing w/petri dishes. They work.

I've read somewhere among these sites that biopsy of tissue is/can be helpful/effective. Makes sense!

well then that might be one test u should do,
it took a lot of time, but we were told it was accurate so big deal on the waiting.
I think it cost money too but if u have it (money LOL not lyme) I would do that test.
mine came back lyme and leptospirosis, which is probably from being around animals (farm) all mi life.

I hate this crap too but I have to get mi attitude of fight back.

it is too bad u can not take the abx for like 6 weeks minimum, although bactrim was one of mi least favorite. I am going to treat myself i guess order some tetracycline take 3 500 mg a day for 2 months and if it helps keep it up. I'd rather have the help of a dr. but I doubt a non-lyme doc would agree too such a high dosage, even I am afraid of it, (herxes are hell) but I am so passively accepting this its disgusting. I should be out shopping tonight and dinner with the girls.

Roses, have you tried an Immunologist/Allergist? I am seeing an Immunologist right now and he is WONDERFUL. Not LLMD, as there are none around me that take insurance but ths guy does. He is willing to look at the WHOLE picture, and trialed me on abx as I clearly had *something* wrong. Once I herxed, he was shocked and 'convinced' and now is willing to work with me.

Why not consider some other form of treatment? There are plenty of non-abx options, that way you won't be risking your health by taking abx without supervision by a doc.

Can you email me with some other forms of treatment? I certainly don't want to self medicate but don't know what else to do right now.

Rather than emailing you, if you don't mind I think it would be more helpful if we started a new thread with the titled, "At home/alternative treatments", so that you & others can find it easier & we can get a lot more input from others as well!!
