Sudden severe hip/groin pain

Good morning everyone.  Been having aching hip pain on right side and am at work now with sudden severe pain in hip area to the crease of my leg/groin and down my leg.  Anyone ever have this??  Thinking maybe bursitis or a trapped nerve or something.  Luckily I am going to LLMD today anyway so I'll discuss with her.

Hi Springsjean, as a LD sufferer I'd be VERY interested what your LLMD says.........for the last year or two my wife (who has never been bitten as far as we know) has exactly the same pain/problem. She has simmering symtoms that could well be the undertones of LD which could, we think, be sexually contracted. So please ask and let me know.

Well just got back and LLMD says she thinks it was a muscle spasm. I have had trouble with muscle spasms before on this side and have had hip pain and flank pain only on this side before which have both been acting up. She thinks I am low on magnesium again so she gave me a shot. I am very curious to see if it works because the last two times she gave me a shot for something it absolutely worked. She said it was not a nerve since it was in the front of the leg. Suggested maybe a chiropractor but I have been that route and don't feel like doing it again. She did say my hip muscles are very tight on that side compared to the other side. I am left with a vibrating on the bottom of my foot ??? This disease is just so baffling.

Hey Springsjean.. jus curious what was the other shots the doctor gave you before that helped?

I know that insane pain. what about that one where it is in your THIGHS? and the SHIN? overtime it happens I say.."who get's pain HERE...it isn't even in a freaking joint!"

and the double sciatica!! who get's it down BOTH legs???

For me it was when ever I tried to cut down on the prednisone and now I'm on just cortisone 29 mg a day but if I try to cut back I get this insane pains.

I think I read here on a post that groin pain is babesia. and the spike in the eye is bartonella.

did the magnesium help?

She had given me a previous shot of magnesium when the palm of my hand turned black (and blue) and a shot of cortizone in my shoulder. I'm still a little leary about this pain cause this doesn't feel like a muscle spasm to me but we shall see what tomorrow brings. I have had issues with the joint of this leg kinda not being right at times so . . .

I've had leg pains that mimic sciatica since I was little (about age 5), and yes, sometimes it is down both legs at the same time. For me, this pain is a Lyme symptom. But what helps me is the following:

Nettles - I take Eclectic Institute brand caps, 2/day and this helps with all my joint pain as well as the "sciatica" leg pains.

Homeopathic Causticum - if I take this the first moment I notice the leg pains starting, it will usually make the leg pains go away.

Heating pad on my lower back - when the leg pain is really bad, putting a heating pad on my lower back seems to reduce the severity of the pain and sometimes can make it go away completely.

Regular exercise - when I was able to exercise regularly, I did not experience the leg pains nearly as often and it was not nearly as severe pain.

Steroid tapering is a known trigger for these kinds of pain, and probably means that you need to taper more slowly. My DH had to taper off Prednisone by 1mg per month or else he'd crash (adrenal crisis) and he was only on 5mg to begin with!

Also, you might consider taking Vitamin B5 supplements, along with Vitamin C. These two supplements help to support and feed the adrenal glands so that they can function properly. Be sure you check your cortisol levels before begining these supplements, and then periodically while taking them so that you don't over-do and wind up with hyper-cortisolism (will have side-effects similar to Pred. if this happens)...

Springsjean, I've had the exact thing!!! (Except on the left side) I have a wonderful Physical Therapist that I see for a partial labrial tear in my shoulder. When my hip thing happened again in January, she checked my hip and pelvic bones while standing and that side was slighly tilted and rotated. She had me lay on my stomach and she checked my spine. (I think she said that something was out.) She applied pressure to the area along both sides of the lower spine and also did some leg work while laying on my back. Twice that week she used some kind of deep heat instrument with gel. Within 2 days I went from being in constant pain and misery to 100% fine!

I hope this makes sense. I'm having cognition problems! Took me 45 minutes to write and rewrite and rewrite...
Anyway, having a PT has really helped when things go hay-wire! Denail

I have a chiropractor too. I actually saw him first and wasn't helped. I hope your's can figure out what you need. I'm sure they all have a lot of similar training, just different ways of treatment. (chiro/PT)
I found him after researching Atlas Adjusting. That's an amazing treatment! Using x-rays and measurements they adjust the upper vert. (called the Atlas) with an instrument/machine. You only feel a light tapping. It helped a lot!

springsjean, Hi I suffer with pain of this kind. I know some of the pain is caused when I overwork my body and I always pay for it the next day. Lyme makes our muscles very tight and fatigue easily. When this happens it can cause bones to be pulled out of place. I went to see the chiropractor one day due to very sharp pain in my hip and groin and she told me that my pubic bone was out of place. I heard it pop back in when she was working on me. She asked me what I was possibly doing to cause this to happen and I said I have know idea. I especially see the chiro when I develop a migraine headache. It wouldn't hurt to get a chiro to look into your problem. I go about once a month or when I have severe problems. Hope you feel better.

Oh man, Donjoe!!! It sounds like it would be terribly uncomfortable to have your pubic bone out of place or popped back into place!!!! smhair

I am sooo sorry!! Although I know what you mean - sometimes I feel like a 1st grader attempting to write a college term paper!! smilewinkgrin
