I went to workshop recently on "eating for energy". The woman leading it suggests eating 5-6 small meals a day. And to eat a lot of whole grains. She also said to balance fruit, nuts, seeds, and leafy vegetables against beans, legumes, and root vegetables (e.g. if you have a serving of fruit, try to make sure you also have serving of beans the same day). Oh, and drink lots of water.
Foods she said are more likely to drain your energy are alcohol, sugar, dairy, white flour, meat, cheese, and eggs.
It's not an energy supplement, but maybe something to consider as well.
