As I understand it, you cannot put a time frame on it as everybody reacts differently to the disease. Also, if a person has been infected before, the disease progresses much faster.
Early stage is defined, then, not by a time frame but by the type of symptoms. Those symptoms are termed localized and include the rash, flu-like symptoms including joint pain and swelling and swollen lymph glands.
The later, disseminated stages can occur in weeks or months, depending on the patient.

Sorry there isn't a more exact answer -- it's one of the many things about this disease that makes it so tricky.
