Seeking Truth

Mystery Lyme,
I would suggest you read the book Cure Unknown by Pamela Weintraub, if you haven't already. It will answer a lot of questions that you have and is a true eye-opener. I think all of us were wary of everything we were told initially because it just made no sense. I don't advocate or dismiss antibiotic use. I was on a few different antibiotics for 9 months and although I did feel much better, I was not cured so now I'm doing natural approaches and feel even better. There is no one right approach to "curing" LD at this point.

Not meant to be snarky at all :) ....but....

I am living proof that 28 days of Doxycycline did not clear-- what has probably been-- a multi-year Lyme infection.

After 28 days (more like 35 days) my PCP had me discontinue Doxy.

I was symptom free for two weeks. Then relapsed HORRIBLY with worse symptoms then I initially had.

My sister rushed me to a top infectious disease doctor (CDC man) who took one look at me, didn't even bother with blood tests, and told me I had Lyme disease. I did not prompt him. He just knew.

He prescribed 6 weeks of Amox. on the spot. That didn't work either to 'cure' me.

Point being-- we are all different-- we all need a treatment plan that will work -- we all want to get well.

I don't think there's a person in the world who wants to be on long term antibiotics-- or on antibiotics at all for that matter.

But when your head is exploding and you can't walk and your entire body is twitching and hurting and you can't remember who the president of the United States is....

....and an infectious disease doctor recommends a different antibiotic for 6 more weeks !!!! --- you DO want to take it. You do want it to work.

Suddenly you are now in the 'long term' antibiotic group.

Certainly 28 days of Doxy or Amox. CAN cure certain people. I wish I had been one of them.

For me personally, Ceftin was the key. Unfortunately it took weeks upon weeks of failure with other ABX, to find this out !

Perhaps if I had been prescribed Ceftin FIRST--- for 28 days--- I would have been cured.

I would like to acknowledge everyone who posted in this thread and say thank you for having such a 'debate' without it getting heated!! I think it says a lot about the kind of people we have here on HW.

So thank you!! to all of our members for being kind, respectful and open-minded enough to hear other out!!
