I am being treated by a doctor who works as an alternative medical physician who treats Lyme. She is not considered a true LLMD. First week of August (after I was diagnosed) she put me on Doxy. I'm still taking it (100mg 3x's day) but I don't seem to have any herxing side effects any longer and my Lyme symptoms are still continuing. I understand this will be a long road before I begin to feel much better. I just wondered if I need to be my own health advocate at this point and ask to go on another ABX, or do I give the Doxy another month (or 2-4 as my doctor is talking about) seems like a long time to be on the same med!

Yes you need to be your own health advocate if you are not being treated by an LLMD. Is there any reason in particular you have chosen to not be with an LLMD? Much as I love the idea of more doctors and practitioners getting experience, it really is very important to be treated by someone with the proper training, if not a lot of experience.

Now, six weeks is not long to be on Doxy, but if you have reached a plateau -- no improvement, no herxing -- then it would normally be time to switch up or add something else. Many Lyme doctors are using herbals such as Artemisinin to support the antibiotics. Do not take this as a suggested treatment -- I am not a medical professional and wouldn't even look good on TV playing one!

Take a look at Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines. It's a lengthy piece, but will give you a sense of what you are looking for. And do consider switching to a Lyme Literate Doctor!

Thanks for the response-
I am frustrated. I got 3 names of LLMD's (emailed from http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/ website)
only 1 in MI (where I am at)
Then 2 more in IL!!!

The one in MI isn't answering their phone ???
One in IL doesn't make appt or talk about first appointments on the phone. Only booking appts online (with no pricing)
The other in IL won't call me back....

HELP????

I am in a state of total give up mode!

I'm not feeling well eyes, so forgive my being abrupt.

The dose for Doxy to actually kill the bacteria is 400- 600 mgs each day, so that is most likely the reason you aren't feeling much.

Also, the treatment times will vary depending on how long you've had the infection and which infections you have, as well as any other weaknesses your body my have (thyroid, adrenal, intestinal, etc.)
