I've been treating lyme for a long time now. I've gotten rid of almost all the bodily symptoms except for the neurological symptoms. I've been having horrible, horrible anxiety for the past year or so now. I've tried taking a product called Kavinace, gabapentin, clonazepam, l-theanine, gaba and just recently niacinamide.

My doctor recommended I take 3 grams of niacinamide a day starting last week and the very thing thats supposed to help my anxiety is making me a twitchy panic attack, ridden mess. It also is causing my swollen lymph node on my neck (very painful) to almost double in size. He is very against benzos and he still hasn't called me back.

I guess I'm just ranting. I'm going to lose my mind sooner or later if I can't get this under control.

I can't sit still in class and every time I try and move my head its like a super twitchy jerky movement. I also feel like I can hear people talking about how crazy I look. I feel like everyone is talking about me that sits behind me. I can't stand the paranoia even though I know it is in my head. I meditate every day and I think there is just something physiologically wrong wtih my brain.

Its like the signals are getting jumbled up and lost somewhere in my head and on the outside I appear to be autistic.

Hey All,

Have you been tested for co-infections? I have Bartonella and one thing my LLMD told me it can cause is bad anxiety.

yea, i was tested and treated for coninfections a year ago and now I am on the cowden protocol.

Have you tried the herb Motherwort? I take a tincture of it and have not needed to use the Xanax that I still have in over 6 months now. Since you are doing herbals, it would be a good thing to call and see what your doc thinks of you adding this to your routine.

Untreated anxiety causes lots of stress - as I am sure you already know!! but are you sure your doc does? This will prevent a lot of healing from taking place IMO, as stress has been proven to do damage to the body.

Motherwort tinctures are pretty easy to find online and in health food stores. I had to start off slowly and build up to a level where I am now - and I rarely have anxiety issues now.

Are you on a daily medication (antidepressant) to keep your anxiety in check? If not, that would definitely be your first step. In the meantime, if your dr is against benzos and you feel you need them then look for a different dr. There was a time when I took clonazepam quite a bit because I literally could not function without it. Now I am on Pristiq and Abilify and together the combo has me almost panic attack free. It took quite a while to get where I am now, but it was so worth it. You should have a doctor to try you on a daily antidepressant to get it under control.

Yes I agree. There was a time when I was taking xanax 3 times a day to get through. I no longer take any at all but do take the lowest dose cymbalta at bedtime. I am so relaxed and enjoying life once again. Perhaps taking something just to get you through until you feel better may be the way to go.

I take amino acids instead of antidepressants. for me, they are more effective with less side effects. My doctor is against prescribing benzos but he called me the other day and gave me a name of a good psychiatrist. I have an appt coming up soon so hopefully we can figure something out. I was okay with living with the side effects from everything for a long time but now its become too much to bear. I can barely sit in class without having a panic attack and thats just not going to work if I want to get my master's or PHD.

I think the main reason for my anxiety is toxins in the brain and the fact that I need to take codeine at least 3 days a week. on the "off" days my symptoms get worse and worse the longer I am on the codeine. I get sweats, chills, plus MORE PANIC! woohoo. anyways, i'm going to try and see if I can get this under control without benzos. But we'll see.

Are you detoxing? If you detox regularly enough, the toxins from your entire body will be expelled. You may need a little help with one of Dr. Jernigans detox herbals or something like that. I'm considering using one of them now, since I'm having such issues with detoxing.

yes i take at least 6 grams of vitamin c a day. regularly eat sea salt and lemons. I also do lymph massages throughout the day and take zeolites. I take a green smoothie every morning and a protein shake at night.

Good! What about the detox baths and Fir saunas? Any way that you can use those as well?

It seems to me that since the longer you stay on the codeine the worse you feel, you are reacting to something in the codeine - it may just be that it leaves more behind in your system than your body is ready to deal with yet. That is what happens to me. I have to be very careful to use the pain killers as little as I can.

Anyway, I was thinking maybe you should try detoxing more to see if that will help. It's something that isn't too terribly expensive that you could do. The other thing is that we already know that we have trouble with our bodies being able to keep up with getting rid of the toxins, and it's the toxins that bring out our symptoms, so it could really help!!

I have always tried to use as least painkiller as possible and a lot of times I don't even take it when I have really bad pain. Ihave just been on it so long that my body is used to having it so when I don't give my body the codeine it gives me horrible anxiety, low self-esteem, paranoid thoughts, sweating, etc. I'll let you guys know how my appointment goes this afternoon. This doctor might end up doing brain scans as well which should be pretty interesting to see the results.

Well, I'm hoping this person can really help me. She needs to talk to my Primary doctor first and look at my medical records before she can actually prescribe me what she wants to (hopefully this is soon...). She thinks I need to be on a partial mu-agonist rather than a full-mu-agonist (codeine). She said subutex (buprenorphine) and baclofen would help me out alot. She also wanted to try something else but she was out of maryland and i'm living in virginia so thats not going to work (unfortunately).
