Maybe this is old news, but I thought I'd mention it:
I just finished reading 'Cure Unknown'....the Pamela Weintraub book I mentioned in another thread. Please know that I have no vested interest in this book. But I do think it's a 'must read'.
Anyway....Dr. Burrascano (as outlined in the book) followed a particular protocol of his own to get well.
He took ABX combos and when he reached a plateau on that combo he would go off all ABX and allow himself to get completely ill -- total relaspe.
Then he would hit the Lyme again with another round of an ABX combo until a plateau was reached again, and then he would stop all ABX for a second time and allow a total relapse once more.
The process was repeated a third time. And it worked. He got well.
Apparently, three's a charm. Three complete relapses did the trick.
There was not a detailed explanation of which ABX he used each time or what the specific order of the combos were....or....how long he allowed himself to be in relapse before starting up with ABX again, etc.
But it is the 'idea' of plateau/relapse that I found interesting. Much like the ABX pulsing that some LLMD's suggest--- where the spiro is allowed to flourish for a time, only to be whacked by the next round of ABX until there are no more.
I certainly don't know the 'science' or bacteriology or ABX system that is absolutely at work here....but still it makes sense to me.
The frightening part to this protocol is total relapse (yikes) and the subsequent herx reaction that is sure to follow once ABX are resumed.
I suppose if one had the support, the willingness to tolerate the down time that comes with relapses/herxing .... and the guts to try such a thing, it would be worth a shot.
I'm going to ask my LLMD about this when I'm next in to see him.
Thoughts???
