 I have a question can you herx if your not being treated, I have no insurance and cant afford to go to the doctor. Im not even sure if I have lyme or not but I have alot of signs that I do. and will i still work if not on meds.

If you really think you have lyme you really need to get tested and treated as soon as possible.. This is not a disease to mess around with.. Mine started out slow but it almost killed me. If you dont treat it quickly you could be facing a lifetime of problems..

Welcome to the forum! Inhimwelive is exactly right -- this is no disease to mess around with. You simply cannot afford not to get some kind of treatment. Untreated, Lyme will progress and damage every part of your body and mind.

Have a look at our "New to Lyme?" thread. There is plenty of information there to get you started on understanding the disease.

Of course, there is no use treating something you don't have. So find out more about the disease and then if you think your symptoms match, try to get help from a doctor or practitioner.

To answer your initial question, a herx (Herxheimer reaction) is a description of the reaction a Lyme patient gets when treatment causes a rapid die off of bacteria and toxins are released at such a rate that the body cannot get rid off them quickly enough.

People often use the term herx to describe any rapid die off -- this can be caused by many different things, excercise, de-toxing, stress, travel among them.

Please, please find a way to determine if you have Lyme and get the treatment you need if you do.

I agree with the others - this is not something that you should put off. These infections can disrupt the functioning of any organ, joint or anything else in your body. If you have one of these infections, you need treatment. If you had bronchitis, you wouldn't just let it go until you had pneumonia, right? Same here. These infections will cause damage to your body if you don't seek out treatment. I'm not trying to scare you - those are just the facts.

There are actually a surprising number of ways to get the treatment you need should you have Lyme and/or co-infections. Some LLMD's will work with your GP, there are Natural Protocols that can be used at home, or you can seek out a Naturopathic, Homeopathic, or other Holistic Practitioner.

If you can possibly find a way to see a doc that really knows about Lyme Disease first in order to get your diagnosis, then you could use whatever form of medicine that you are most comfortable with.

You will want to find an ILADS(International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society) doctor. The ILADS site is a great place to read to get you started on your Lyme journey.
