How many lesions can you have?

I was Dx with MS about a month ago and start my meds tommororw.

I only have lesions in my brain but I have 16 of them!!!

I tested negative for lyme but Im still curious.

I just built a house about 2 years ago and it was pretty dang tick infested until about mid summer this year. 

Tick are not a new thing to have around as I love the outdoors.

So how many lesions does someone normally see?  16 seems like a awful lot for lyme

Mine were listed as too numerous to count. I am still working and doing pretty well. My llmd says the lesions will resolve with treatment.

I have TWENTY lesions on my brain! I had every test under the sun at UCSF including a lumbar puncture. My neuro saw my MRI and asked (have you had lyme disease?) That was literally the first question he asked me.

Anyhow, I was tested for Lyme through Labcorp and during my lumbar and both were negative. Then, I drove myself to Igenex labs and tested positive for Lyme and Erchlichosis. Been under treatment since Jan 2011 and have a LOT of improvements!!!

I've had many many symptoms......numb patches in face, tingling/vibrating/pulsating in legs, trembling in hands, etc...many more...just can't think of them all at this moment.

I had my first MRI in July 2010 with a follow-up in December 2010.  No new lesions.  I am scheduled for another MRI on December 12th.  If no new lesions, then I do not have to repeat.  I will admit, I am very scared to have the MRI, but I feel that I need to do it for peace-of-mind.

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry you are not well. A negative test for Lyme doesn't mean you don't have it, I'm sorry to say. The tests are looking for antibodies to the bacteria. Because there are many strains of Borellia (100 and counting) and because the disease suppresses the immune system, these antibodies are often not detected -- particularly with a long-held infection. Add to that the confusion of co-infections carried by the same ticks.

Lyme needs to be diagnosed clinically by a Lyme Literate Doctor. Take a look at the "New to Lyme?" thread. There are symptom lists that may seem familiar to you.

Your history of exposure to ticks is enough evidence that you would be wise to fully investigate Lyme as a cause of your lesions. IMHO

thanks for all the help!  After my next Dr appt I will go and see about going to a lyme dr.

My ID doctor insisted I had MS and lyme (and possibly syphllis - I kid you not). My MRI report did not list the number of lesions just said "numerous."

My first primary doctor did think of lyme but told me it was negative, which it was, but had significant banding. It was only years later that I learned to get a copy. So my first advice would be to get a copy of your lab work. If they ran a western blot, it will list bands. If it was only an ELISA, that is a highly unreliable test. However, as achieving grace said, lyme must be a clinical diagnosis due to the unreliability of all tests.

The best thing you may ever do is see an LLMD. Best to you.
