Maybe this will help explain things a bit - WARNING - this is only my opinion, backed up with some scientific data. I do not claim to know everything there is to know about
abx treatments - I'm using herbs/acupuncture/Chinese Medicine.
Herxing is something that is best to avoid to be honest - it's a healing crisis. The body is quite simply overloaded with toxins because of an increase in die-off of the bacteria, or whatever the infecting agent is. With proper detoxing, herxing can be avoided. It's not only hard on us emotionally and mentally, but physically as well, as the body is under so much more stress. This is where the complications come in.
With our bodies being under more stress, then infections have a better chance at "getting to a hiding spot" or going into cyst form, where they can avoid the abx. This is why we have an increase of symptoms or even new symptoms appearing.
Many, including LLMD's suggest that this is a good thing, but I beg to differ. I don't see any kind of healing crisis as a good thing. It is my opinion that the only good thing about
a herx is like when the doc finds that sore spot - you can holler "Got it!!" You have found an abx, or abx combo that is now working. But you need to detox to help get yourself back to where you are doing more healing than dealing with too much die off too fast.
My Doc has told me that if I experience a herx, she wants me to stop taking/doing what is causing it and to call her immediately. After a bit of discussion (
), we agreed that if the herx was more than mild I would - I'm not going to call her and complain because of a few minor increases in symptoms!!
Here's the tricky part - to know the difference between a herx, and allergic reaction, and just a bad day. I have to pay close attention to most every thing I do - if I do something different, then I watch for increasing symptoms - a herx.
I have a lot of trouble with my detoxing pathways - ie -I have trouble using detoxing methods. I have to use sneakier methods of detoxing. If I use the detoxing foot bath closer than 4 or 5 days apart, boy do I pay! That's a herx. I caused more die-off than my body could handle.
Now, have I made the matter clear as mud yet?
I
could keep on explaining!!
LOL!!
