What happens when you break up biofilms?

Well, since I live in wake co, and already see a specialist for blood disorders at unc, and have family in smithfield, and my friendly doctor is in durham, why yes, I WOULD like a suggestion. Please :)

A suggestion for a good doctor is one of the primary reasons I joined this site.

Yes, detoxing is a huge part of feeling better! The sooner you start, the better off you will be, as your body will then be able to concentrate on only 1 thing - healing! Rather than it struggling with how to get rid of all of those toxins on it's own.

No, biofilms are not the same as cysts. A cyst is a life-form of Bb(?) - think of it like an insect - the same insect can be a larvae, a nymph or an adult. The germs can take on different forms too, maybe due to environmental changes or other reasons.

Biofilms are a polysaccharide envelope that bacteria and yeast create that acts as a barrier. It allows in food, but excludes antibodies and antibiotics. The germs live a happy life, free from care. I suspect that when you hear about bacteria being resistant to abx, that at least part of the reason is biofilms.

So, you do a round of abx and feel better. You've cleared all of the germs EXCEPT the ones hiding in their little biofilm tent. Then something causes the biofilms to open (or perhaps the germs can pass through?) and you're still infected. That's why you need to destroy the biofilms so your immune system and the abx can get to the bugs.

If you search PubMed for "biofilms" you'll find that many of the infections that you might catch in a hospital is because of biofilms that protect the little buggers against the antiseptics used to try to sterilize them.

That's my understanding of Biofilms as well.


Cysts are formed when the bacteria 'detects' a threat. It's a cloaking device - if you will - think of Star Trek and other Sci-fi movies where the bad guys ships suddenly couldn't be found - they used their "cloaking device".

And, yes, Border, I agree with you. It's a shame that we have to learn so much about our disease in order to be sure we get the treatment that we really need. Although the more a person knows about their disease, the better that person will fair with it - so it's not all bad, it's just difficult because these infections so often affect our brains.

I think that's where this site comes in though! That's why we need older members here discussing things! That was the only way I had any clue as to what was actually happening to me when I first started here back in 2007 - older members explaining things to me so that I could understand because my brain had been so badly compromised by these infections.

That is also why I am still here! I can still remember oh-so-clearly the frustrations and the fears that I was going through those years before I found this site - there's no need for others to go through all of that!! =)

Just wanting to treat you the way I was treated when I was new here!! Been there, done that, and didn't ever want the T-shirt!!! Giggle! I'm really happy that we have so many others here that like to help as well! It takes all of us! =)

I don't know why doctors start you on interfase first, but I suspect (mho only) is that it eases you into the treatment, but there could be other reasons. In my case, interfase was the second step, the first being some supplements (sorry, don't recall the first step) but since I had been on Nystatin a while I skipped the first step and went to the interfase.
