Has any of you diagnosed with neuroborreliosis experience during the treatment with antibiotics any worsening of the eye vision? I understand that during the treatment the symptoms can get worse, but I'm very scared that I will go blind. Is it possible to never regain my sight as it was before I started the antibiotics? I admit that my sight was not perfect in the beginning and that in time I had to change glasses every once in 4-5 months and finally get strong contact lenses, but now during the treatment things have gotten really bad. What if I finish the abx and I still feel and see like during the treatment? Is it possible?

My own experience has been that things got quite bad with my vision -- mostly because of nerve and muscle tremors. And now that I am almost well my vision is back to near where it should be given where I was and the time that has elapsed.

Please do not waste any energy on worrying about things that haven't happened yet! You should get your eyes checked regularly and mention that you have Lyme. Your ophthalmologist should know what to look for.

Before I found out that I have Lyme I went to a lot of ophtalmologists and they all said I had astigmatism and that all they can do about that is change prescriptions for eyeglasses. Then I got on contact lenses but even those couldn't give me a perfect eye sight every day. When I found out about Lyme, my doc said that this vision instability was given by the toxins and that was the reason why my lenses could not always give me a clear vision.
Having now, during the treatment such an awful vision has got me panicked that I will loose my eye sight progressively, till blindness. That's why I was looking for opinions of those who have already been through this and got better.

Hi Cams,
Have you been evaluated for Bartonella? I know that not only Lyme, but Bartonella effect the eyes as well. At any rate, as Achievinggrace said, things almost always return back to where they should be.

You will experience lots of ups and downs in the severity, and number of your symptoms while going through treatment - this is quite normal!! There's a massive fight for control of your body going on inside of you right now! Help your body lower the toxin load - and thus your symptoms - by detoxing well and often!

Besides borrelia I was also found with babesia and haemoplasma. Don't remember my doc saying anything about Bartonella. I know for sure now that when I lay in bed and drink plenty of water + lemon I feel better. If I wouldn't have had such eye problems I guess I could have tolerated a lot better the treatment and not worry so much.
Reading here that things can get to normal in the end with my eyes really helps me go on with the rest of the treatment series.

Please do continue with your treatment. This is the only thing that will keep your eye issues from becoming permanent as well as other symptoms and issues from happening! Please do start detoxing if you haven't. It really will help.

I use to have phenomenal vision..In the last couple years it started going and I thought I was just getting old.. Now I know it was the lyme.. Sometimes its worse then others.. I have no advice except hang in there!

I used to have great vision too until 2 years ago when all started to fade away... Even though I have a 100% accurate diagnostic of Lyme, sometimes I pray that I do not have some other illness, that was not found by my eye doc and that keeps evolving and can get me blind. I'm so doubtful, especially during the worst days of the abx treatment.

Have you talked about it with your LLMD, or got your eyes checked? You never want to just assume the cause, so you should definitely talk to your LLMD and get your eyes checked in case there is something else going on. I know some antibiotics can affect your vision. I wouldn't stop your treatment- I'd just be careful.

I had bartonella, and it effected my eyes too. It got better with treatment- but EVERYTHING got worse to start. How long, and how bad it gets, depends on how much bacteria was there to start with.

A while ago I called my eye doc and informed him I was diagnosed with Lyme and he just said: " Oh, God, why didn't we think about that, as this now makes sense why I keep on changing glasses"...
A friend of mine said I could go to a neurologist and ask for a test that shows how nervous impulses are conducted through the optic nerves. I guess this is something I should do, just to see how badly are my eye nerves affected now and how they will be in 6 months from now. Just an idea.
